There have been no deaths in Australia from a confirmed spider bite since 1979. An effective antivenom for Redback Spiders was introduced in 1956, and one for funnel-web spiders in 1980. These are the only two spiders that have caused deaths in Australia in the past.
thank you, at least here is some evidence instead of just numbers bandied around. unfortunately its still up for debate until someone can say there are x numbers of spiders, x numbers of bees/wasps therefore giving some ratio. would it not be fair to say though with bees and wasps moving faster, flying around you, this would increase your chances of being stung?

I grew up in the bush in Australia. We respect our fauna and, we still live very full lives.

Now living in Africa, and here there is one very innocuous little insect called the 'anopheles mosquito'....now, the she of this species has killed millions. You learn to cope....and live.
to be so patronising in such a short post is truly an achievement.

I don't know how they manage to have so many accidents here - even if they are pissed up. The roads are straight and wider than the UK's trade deficit. Actually I do know - it's cos everyone drives pussy stop/go cars.

Ok, all you need now is some shark repellent and you are away.

that because your figures were bollox by any chance.

On average around 5 or 6 bites require anti-venom treatment each year in Australia.
thats just for the funnel. its quite clear since anti venom in 1956 its solved the problem of them killing, as long as you can get to it quick enough i suppose, but they are biting people. lots of people every year all over australia.

why is this such an issue to accept, i am not saying canada or the UK for that matter is better or safer, they both have their issues, be it bears, wasps or whatever. These things do exist in aus though, they are prevalent and they do bite people.
