Its Natural thyroid Hormone and it comes from pigs thyroid(it does too cos it smells like a farmyard)I was on thyroxine but it made no difference to me so they put me on this,it has t3 ,t4 etc and has all the same ingredient as your own thyroid, which the synthetic version doesnt. It costs an arm an a leg though,i was paying about $30 for thyroxine about 6months supply(i reckon thats cheap)but the NTH costs me$90 for about 6 weeksOn top of that i have DHEA $90,to try to get my hormones up again ,along with progesterone cream $95.I call that expensive.
But hey its better than spending allday, every day in bed.
good luck to all

I get the synthetic form of that, it's called Tertroxine and they costs me around $25 for 100 tablets. Maybe give them a try?

Orton Longueville is nice, we used to live in Orton Waterville which was nice but the house was too small and considering our family was just about to grow by a whole person ...

We live in the middle of a huge estate now and it's horrid. Arson attacks, police here constantly etc, it's horrible. I wish we didn't have to save money so that we could leave sooner.

But now with medication going to cost a lot more money I guess we need to save more!

How much is it for thyroxine?

My Thyoxine tablets are $24 for 6 bottles of 40 tablets (100mcg each). I don't think that is too expensive myself, even with the other tabs ( Tertroxine ) at $25 for 50 days supply I can manage it and am happy to pay the cost rather than suffer without medication.

Yeah I have relatives that live in Orton.

Thyroxine isn't too bad to be honest. I think Nic is paying $60 for 6 months supply, just stock up on the Ibuprofen ...

Oh wow - small world hey! You'll know where I am then - Orton Goldhay - right next to the Orton centre which at the moment is being rebuilt. We moved here when Clara was 5 weeks old, the decision was made when she was about a week old so I really wasn't in the right frame of mind, believe, I would rather have stayed in Waterville!

Yes, anyone who gets a thyroid panel needs to be tested for antibodies. Got them, got Hashimoto's...

Dont take it personally mate. You know that I've had my fair share of thyroid problems/treatments/doctors too - but not all are bad and I wouldnt like to think that newly diagnosed sufferers are worrying that treatment isnt going to work for them......for many many sufferers it works fine, they get their dosage, and life goes on as normal. Let the docs do their job is all I'm saying.........and if that doesnt work for you start looking into getting a new doc and reading all you can. But dont let it take over your life. It is a condition that can dramatically change your life (as was the case for me) but it doesnt have to be like that forever
Hi! Mrs Jackaroo,
Its nice to read your view as all the threads that i have been reading have worried me reading the posts makes me feel that people are having a lot of trouble getting there medication right by the doctors out there it has brought a few tears to meas i am now seriously thinking about telling my OH that i don't want to goas i think that one of the most important things for me when we come out would be the doctors and reading these have not given me much confidence in it all.

Yes, I am taking both at the minute. I am however swaying towatds getting the do to take me off the thyroxine to see how I do without it . I will probably go back to the thyroid specialist rather than the doc I am seeing now, as she is more woemns health (and I'm having trouble with that at the minute! hence the reason I'm seeing her.

On the contrary, I had far more trouble in the UK with my meds than I have had here. For me the doctors here have been 500% better with the medication, their attutide and their knowledge of thyroid problems. If you are going to let anything stop you migrating, then don't let it be the doctors as they are fantastic here.

Thank you for your reassurance, we have been over to Au's before and i had been to the doctors for thyroxine and because they did not have the right level in tablets i was told to take one level dose one day and a higher dose the next and that would get the doseage. I know that you are not to do that and are to take the exact dosage everyday so i am a bit worried on that account, and when getting the tablets from the chemist they asked me if i wanted the real thing or a substitute for the medication which is cheaper, perhaps that is the norm over there but i was quite shocked because i know you must have the right medication. and reading the replies of people that have had similar problems with the dosage makes me uneasy. and while there i did not have a very good experience with the dentist either as when we were there i had a broken tooth and they said i would have to go to the hospital to have the tooth done and would cost few hundred to get it mended i kept my broken tooth for about eight months in the end when we came back to the UK and i went back to my dentist that we had before and it took ten mins to do and cost forty pound. So it does make me wonder if it is like that all over Au's as doctors and dentists are very important to me.

I am on 200mcg's per day so take two whole tablets, when I first got here though I was on 150mcg's and was able to buy both 100mcg and 50mcg tablets. If I hadn't then I would have just snapped one in half

You can buy 'branded' or 'generic' tablets, the generic ones are just the same as the branded ones only cheaper - do not for one minute think they are better just because they are dearer. That's like saying starbucks coffee is better than the local cafe just because it's got a brand name that you are paying extra for - they both sell the same coffee, it's just in a different cup and one charges more than the other.

Don't know about dentists, don't like them so won't go unless I have to.

I am reading this thread with interest. I am pleased to hear that there are thyroid specialists in Aus. I asked my GP to be refered to an endocrineologist-he said I dont need to be???

To cut a long story short I've never felt right, took 5 years to fall pregnant with baby #1 and am still trying after 3years for baby #2, I'm about 5 stone heavier than I would like to be too.
I take 200mcg thyroxine like clockwork and get confused, tired, dry skin yet when I went for a blood test a couple of weeks ago the doctor's receptionist (yes, receptionist) told me I was fine when I phoned for my results!

HELP!

What do I need to ask for? I have a private GP available to me (which we use for our son's complex condition) but have never thought to discuss this with him. He's the guy who set up Netdoctor and is wonderful.

I never realised until I read this thread. I am one of the people that assumed that feeling this crap was normal because its been so long!
I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, had it for nearly twenty years and sorry to say i still feel crap. At the moment i feel like i could sleepall the time but im lucky if i get six hours sleep a night with the children and then i am supposed to keep going all day.:curse:

Hi!I am just down the road to you, your chemist can give you a form to claim back what you pay on prescriptions until you get your new exemption card. I have just had to do that for my son.
