I believe it. The country they fought for is being sweeped from under their feet.

I don't believe it, frankly.

Once again, I am proud of elements in our history, it doesn't make me proud to be English.

What didn't you like about England, for starters? Maybe we can figure it out from there

Erm ... are you aware that patriotism is taught and not inherent? There is nothing weird about her POV. It certainly isn't any weirder than yours.

Met a few British people on travels of mine, and they all said that England is being stolen from them by the insane PC mentality, especially in regards to immigrants, especially Muslim immigrants. Look at the Luton protests when the British soldiers came home. It's on youtube.

I wasn't taught to be proud to be Spanish. Yet I still am. Unless self-taught counts.

Learning can be done through observation of surroundings. You were obviously socialized in such a way that taught you to be patriotic/nationalistic. It's not a criticism - I am the same. I'm just saying that you are out of order for your assertion that N1cky should feel as if there is something wrong with her (or her home country) because she doesn't possess those same traits.

There is nothing I don't like about England (well I'm sure if I thought hard enough there would be something). I love England and would be more than happy to go back, I just don't get how I can be proud of a nationality that is mine through luck.

Presumably this is why they get kids to pledge every day, its something they are taught to do.

I feel like I am missing something here, why are people proud to be English/American...?

I guess for me it's the opposite then. Obviously growing up here, it's kinda hard to not be patriotic, with the Pledge of Allegiance and all, and how our classes are conducted and such

Well I can't speak for you but being proud to be American? Well I would have to say like I did in my previous post, the Pledge, our history, and accomplishments like space, and other things. We just feel that we've done a lot more than other nations and feel we should be proud of it, and from a young age, they teach you from school, and the TV, that you should be proud of living here. Our history classes here are always infused with some patriotism. I guess that's why people here are proud to be American
