I wouldn't want to upset anyone in Townsville..that is where we were heading originally..I got warned off the boss who I was going to work for and then we visited Townsville. I just didn't get a feel for the place. The waterfront area is o.k but wasn't impressed with the beaches and it isn't green like Cairns is.
cairns is sooo green. O.k it rains more in Cairns in the wet season but then you get 8 months gorgeous weather. You have a nice island off of Townsville called Magnetic Island..great for day trips and nice beaches but Cairns has lots of nice beaches, a great marina waterfront, the open lagoon (and it's free), lovely boardwalk esplanade, nice restaurants and bars and also rainforest, barrier reef, atherton tablelands. Still need convincing? For me the appeal is the diversity of the landscapes and being into my photography I can't wait to get there. It is laid back and you get the benefits of the tourist industry in that you wil never be bored and it is multi-cultural.
Can you not afford to do a reccie to both areas.
I would say Townsville is quite a working/industrial town and Cairns is more geared up for the tourist industry.

I have looked at a few places but only due to having a job offer in each!

Melbourne-lovely coast but job offer too far away from the city
Hervey Bay- decided too remote and a bit quiet
Brisbane- wasn't keen!
Coolangatta- Great Beach but not a lot else apart from a few cafes and a handful of shops.
Townsville- Just didn't like, didn't get a feel for the place and not green enough!
Coffs Harbour- Looked lovely but OH would have to do a degree to join police there, and then still be on shit money! Don't think so.

CAIRNS - Fell in ove with it as soon as we drove in down Mulgrave Road, it just felt right..and that was before we saw the beaches, rainforest and Port Douglas! The job offer was also very good.

Sounds like you have a lot of decisions to make. Good luck with it all.

god it must be contagious we have been Perth, Tasmania, Brisbane, Bunbury, Cairns, Perth, Cairns, Perth, cairns and we are sticking with Cairns.

Oh forgot to add Adelaide.

Oh my God, we forgot Adelaide. OH got an interview for the police there and easy option to transfer as they sort out ALL visas. However, could you survive on about £250 a week!! No, neither could we!

What are you doing up still? The same as me I guess.. Another boring Friday night T.V and I think I will have to get counselling to ween me off this website!
Would be in bed in Oz by now as would be getting up to go for walks on the beach with dog early morning..to make the most of those light days!

Well I want to be in Paradise....LOL

At the moment the girls want a swimming pool in the garden, so Tas isn't going to offer that. We seem to be in a toss-up between Townsville and Cairns........and we will be having major discussions this weekend to see if we can decide for sure which one.
I have a few friends in Townsville........but I will be 'Billy-No-Mates' in Cairns
Plus I still haven't sold my house :curse:

15 more weeks and my house has been up for sale for a YEAR!!!!!! :curse:
