thanks for your help. I figured the things we need to save up for are flights, a car of some form, rental deposit and some basic furniture (or shipping of our stuff) and some spends for a couple of weeks until i get my first wages.

Are you a nurse aswell who has been sponsored for the RSMS or are you in a different line of work. If i can do 20 hours for 12 months i can apply for the 175 visa so if i don't get anywhere with sponsorship then we just have to bide our time until i can apply for the PR visa ourselves.

Hi Liz the couple on today come on BE her name is foxyRuthie she wrote this about her appearance on the show

Thank you for your kind comments. We were worried about how we'd come across because after all they show 45 minutes but take over 200 hours of footage and sooo much was left out/edited out!

We were very lucky to be given the opportunity to go and revisit Cairns and answer all the questions we had regardng the move, believe me when I say we have researched this pretty damn well, my note taking is legendary! We now have our visas and once the house is sold we'll be moving to Cairns, much to the disappointed of my boss who keep trying to bribe me to stay, yes I do work too! They showed all the lovely negative aspects of work in Cairns for marine bios, what they didn't show was that last time I was in Cairns I worked as a marine bio on one of the boats, I got the job within 24 hours of being in Cairns and I got paid more than Adam so that is what I'm planning on doing again. It is great knowing that Adam already has a job lined up for when we arrive and it takes the financial pressure off.

We so fell in love with the first house largely because it was so much more beautiful that we thought we'd ever afford so to be told we could was great, we actually saw another mortgage advisor when we were out there, they didn't show that either, you said my work on the boats without a contract was fine, phew! They pretty much don't do small houses out there so why not stetch yourselves and get the best that you can afford? The one in Yorkeys Knob was really down, they didn;t show the half of it, we were told it would cost at least $100k to do it up which would make it more expesive that the second house that was brand new so why would we go for that! Initially Yorkey's Knob was where we wanted to go but the flight path put us off as there were planes over head every 15-20 mins and were too loud for my liking but other than that its gorgeous but well probably go with Kewarra Beach and build our own home as its cheaper!

Finally there is nothing wrong with our lives in the UK but we know that we can improve our lives, lifestyle and future for our foxcubs by moving to Oz, so why would not want to do it?

Thanks again for all your support and I hope you all have successful moves and fantasic lives down under

Ruth & Adam

Good luck

Hiya Kaye

Havn't managed to watch it yet, Jen has watched it, she said they came across as a really nice couple. Youngy, how did he manage to get on it?? I don't know what he looks like!! Have to let me know where he is on it, I want to see who I might be going out mountain biking with!!
Yorkeys Knob, we love the beach there. it will be my dog walking beach but I wouldn't live there either due to the flight path.
kewarra beach is on our list to buy, we will be renting in Forest Gardens as I can walk to work from there. If we can find somewhere to rent with the dog that is!
Got my confirmation from case officer today that all docs are in order..just the meds now.

Hiya. Liz here..

I am working for NHS here as a Podiatrist, not a nurse unfortunately. I have a specialist post out there for a private Podiatrist just doing sports injuries/biomechanics. there are plenty of nurses on here that should be a ble to answer that..put a new thread on with the question.
The 175 visa is quick when applied for or try e mailing the hospital to see if they sponsor.
If we didn't have cars and bikes that were worth money we would have to save up for at least a year too! Just going to be hard not having my new sportsbike over there..I will begutted!

Youngy ?
Look for the David Beckham lookalike

Shoots from the hip but rarely talks bollox.
His view may differ from yours on some things but contrary to forum belief he is a great lad

Someone once said to me "I don't want to meet that miserable git" but I insisted they should and they are now glad they did.

Reckon we could have the next prospective mayor of Cairns.

(That's a pint you owe me mate)

sometimes the truth hurts and you can never judge a book by its cover. by the way i doubt that you will be walking from forest gardens to mulgrave rd to work. its further than you would think.

Youngy,
I have no probs with your views at all..I just meant that some people might think you are moaning a lot..ha ha. I actually agree with pretty much all of your posts and am looking forward to meeting you and some other expats for a few beers.
Is it a long walk to Mulgrave?? Best I bring my mountain bike over on the plane then!
Saw you on Wanted Down Under...have the couple you met moved out there yet? You didn't come across at all miserable on the T.V, I like people who speak their mind so no probs from me....some people can ask stupid questions on the posts on here!

A quick update from me....

First weeks has turned into 6 months and all is well. House sale FINALLY completed yesterday!! so we have some money at last, just a shame it's in the UK and the exchange rate is so crap Other good news yesterday my nomination for PR ENS visa is approved so I can now apply for that!
Decided it's time to move on from the lovely Trinity Beach rental, the rent is increasing so we're going to look at moving probably to Redlynch, Brinsmead, Freshwater area nearer to kids school, will stay renting for now and just watch the market for a while and see what happens.
Kids are happy apart from being a bit bored in the school holidays, their friends are not nearby but they've both had sleepovers and they get to swim a lot when it's not raining.
Nigel has some work doing some tiling and odd jobs at a place in Kewarra Beach with some other possibilities on the horizon, that will all get easier once he has a vehicle and his tools which are still in the process of being shipped.
My job is all fine, still plodding through the new grad transition program and its endless string of rotations but I enjoy work most of the time and have met some great people.
Looking forward to meeting all the new arrivals!
