yes, the homeless part..wierd. We will have to stay in holiday place or motel and hope we find somewhere to let pretty quickly..with a dog!! My partner keeps saying"do you realise I am giving up a good career to go to Oz" and sometimes I do think "what are we doing?" I guess we wouldn't be doing it if we didn't think it was right...have you got family going with you sophjam?? What will you be doing there and where do you hope to be living..what area?

hi Trudi
do you know the hospital will put you up for the first two weeks at their expense and you should get money towards relocation costs...doesn't matter if your not sponsored anyone relocating from more than 100 km away can claim, the accommodation is pretty nice too! they will also collect you from the airport!
can't help with electrician stuff I'm afraid my hubbys a chippy. Nurse katy's OH is the one to talk to about electrics.
Work is good, people are so friendly and welcoming, it's still nerve wracking but that's true of any new job and I'm slowly getting the hang of it
Enjoy these last few months you have in the UK and I'll look forward to meeting you when you get here in Jan

Hi they have just offered me the accomodation, I didnt think I would get anything being ona PR visa as they said not at interview. Is the apartment ok opposite the hospital. It will save us money so thats a good thing. How are you doing ? not long now before the clan arrive have you got the rental sorted and ready to move in. What are you bringing with you from the uk?
We're bringing from the UK only boxes of personal items, and OH's tools no big furniture or anything like that. Our rental will be ready end of next week just a few days before the others get here...so far the only furniture I have is a bed so we may be sitting on deck chairs for a while but who cares

That's good about the accommodation also keep receipts and stuff as you should be able to claim up to $3000 back. The apartments on Lake St opposite the hospital are fine, 4* nicely furnished you get a bit of noise from planes and the walkways but it's fine short term.

I'm lucky as a new graduate in theatre my shifts are nearly always 8 till 4.30 Monday to Friday once I'm more experienced I'll get some out of hours shifts and weekends. For those working a normal shift pattern you get the opportunity to opt out of working earlies after lates if you don't want to.

Hi Trudi
No not booked anything yet may delay coming for a couple of months my lads have been asked to go on a football tour to Marbella in April so they want to go on that, something good to end their 6 years at the club.
Things have been delayed for us to just completed meds a month after taking them hubby had health scare with his heart but everything fine so glad we have this meds wont complain about the cost again.
Was hoping they would be sent yesterday but I have a feeling our panel doc is on holidays as we havent heard from him and we have regular contact via email because of the scare.
Instead of Feb probably be April when we arrive so warm up the barbie and chill those beers and warn the neighbours the geordies are coming.

Hi tripawaymars! I have 2 kids aged 13 and 16 girl and a boy my son is at college so will be arriving a few weeks after us unless I can persuade him in the meantime to come with us. His course finishes in June he will validate at easter then go back for a few weeks. We have family in cairns already wholive at bentley park Ive got my daughter into st Marys high school so we will be at the south end of cairns. Im a community childrens nurse here but have a job to go to on the kids ward at the base hospital. How about you?
Hi Sophjam,
I don't have any kids..just me and my partner (Jen). I qualified as a Podiatrist in June this year and been lucky enough to find a job in Cairns which is well paid, is willing to sponsor me and is specialist..sports podiatry (I will mainly be treating sports related injuries and biomechanical disorders of the lower limb). OH is in police here but doesn't fancy it over there too much as will have to train in brisbane for 4 months and is considering a career change..child protection possibly. Hoping to be out there in march/April and living in Trinity beach or Kewarra beach area...or Forest gardens to the south is also nice. Will only have my wage initially so hoping to find a rental for max 350 a week. Will be great to post a meet up on here in April/May when we all out there....and make it a regular one..I think would be good to support each other as some people find it harder to settle than others in new place. I lived abroad before for 5 years and can pretty much adapt to anywhere...especially somehwere as beautiful as cairns...

Re: First weeks in Cairns
House sale is still ongoing, we're on second lot of buyers now with a much lower offer certainly had our fair share of challenges over the last few months, latest today...phone call from landlord of a house we're supposed to be renting from Saturday, all been arranged for months, she announces they've decided to sell it...they're having open house sat and sun while I'm trying to move in said we can pay rent week by week and if it sells we'll have a month to leave
Hubby and kids arriving next week so that's one good thing
