The issue is that various States have recently abolished the requirement to have a permit to carry. It used to be called "Vermont carry" because Vermont has never had a permit requirement but now it's called "constitutional carry" although no court has ever ruled a permit requirement unconstitutional.

Nearly all of the States that allow it are rural, with the exception of Arizona.

Also it varies from State to State, some of them, like Wyoming and Maine, only allow it for residents of the State, but most of them, like Arizona and New Hampshire allow anyone to carry without a permit.

I'm an NRA member and happy to say so.
The NRA has been vague on this issue; originally they were totally against it then members started to complain so they haven't exactly endorsed it but they do get their members to write in now when there is a bill that is likely to pass in the legislature, e.g. Kentucky.

Personally I think it's bonkers, you literally have people who've bought a gun and are carrying it without any training at all, not even in relation to the law around carrying a gun. For example, it's always illegal to carry on federal property like a post office or within 1,000 feet of a school, under federal law.

The NRA is in an awkward position because they're constantly going on about people getting trained but on the other hand, a lot of members support it.

The NRA do a lot of course, the one I went on did.

Always thought the concept of concealed carry permit made little sense, but then again they make silencers more expensive and difficult to get.

You can buy a firearm without a background check at a gun show. You can also buy one out of a car trunk if you know who to talk to and you can buy one in a retail store which generally means a background check. Take your pick

Just as well the Dems are in control in Chicago, as they have been for a very long time.

It's probably a lack of resources caused by budget shortfalls that's the main problem and this is a problem in most major American cities.

It makes little difference which party run a city. It's what's available in the budget to hire more police officers and train them in gang suppression tactics that's the issue. Police officers are expensive employees to have on any payroll in any town or city.

As a matter of historical record it was Mayor Big Bill Thompson stalwart member of the Republican and America First Parties who was running the city in the days of Al Capone

No. And if one is so irresponsible to do so then they deserve to lose their goods.

Sounds like you've been singing along to Obama speeches in the shower too much.

Not strictly true..... only if it's a private sale. A dealer always does background checks.
