Manchester is very good. There's a pub garden at the end of the runway that is brilliant for shooting. That said, kids sometimes get annoyed when adults with tripods are standing at the top of their miniature fort :p

I'd love to be able to get back there again, I only flew in/out of that airport once before, didn't really get a chance to look around. Out here, I haven't tried getting near O'Hare unless I have business there. I suppose my being on foot and in possession of a camera would point me out as an obvious terrorist, so probably not a great idea

Re: Planespotting
Having never spotted in the US before, would taking pictures on the glide path really be seen as something illicit?

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek earlier but many people don't understand that a photographer is fully within his or her rights to take pictures of anything they want to from a public area (except military installations). Basically, if you can see it you can shoot it. You may be questioned but as long as you are off private property (i.e. try to stand in a car park, or on a side street) there is no law saying one can't take pictures of arriving and departing flights. |

Re: Planespotting
I literally just sent that link to the wife :) I've been there a few times, it is a damn fine pot, but prefer to catch landings which can be difficult at LHR.

Never again with Enterprise (at least in the UK). I had a bad experience with them in May at LGW. Earlier this month I used Sixt at LHR. Much better and they are easier to get to being close to T4.

We'll probably be flying into EGLL/EGCC and connecting to EGAA next time so we're going to use whatever rental company has cars actually at the airport in Aldergrove and not in some pokey little town 5 miles from the airport  |

Didn't have any problems at Heathrow. They gave me a new Ford Galaxy, which had come right off of the Transporter.

We had a bad experience with them at Dublin airport on our last trip. Never any bother (apart from getting a really shit car once) here in the US but utterly awful at Dublin airport.

I told them to wash it or give me another vehicle. They pissed and moaned about it before giving in and giving me another car. Jim. |
