I use that for a lot too - very easy. And can access it on the run as well. The thing I really like is the mobile deposit, where you just take a photo of the check. Saves me a lot of time, and has never failed yet. Its just a shame that its limited to 2000/day

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, thats a pile of checks!!!!! Two thousand!!

That's a pet peeve.

SA: Did you find everything you were looking for today?
Me: No. I wanted a pair of these in a size ….. and you only have them in a size ……
SA: (With bemused expression) Oh, I'm sorry about that.

Completely worthless conversation.

Because people complain if the cashier doesn't pretend to be interest by making fake conversation, and since the cashier can't generally do anything about being out of stock, best they can do is just say sorry.

I always get a hard at work as I don't talk enough, not sure why people care to have a fake conversation with a complete stranger, but apparently it matters.

My DVR pet peeve is getting double recordings because being in Canada pretty much all US shows broadcast on 2 stations, the US channel as well as the Canadian channel that has broadcast rights, so I end up with the same shows recorded on both channels, haven't figured out if there is a way to fix that, and the cable company is of no use.

And pretty much every show is cut short 1-2 minutes, so never see the end of some.

I don't get that either. Pretty sure I haven't had a checkbook since 1993-4

I haven't had a check in probably 15 years now, nobody takes them around here really anymore, let alone a store, never seen a store accept a cheque here, cash, debit or credit only.

My landlord wont even accept checks for rent, its cash, credit, debit, on online bank payment.

The government is even phasing out cheques and will only offer direct deposit for payments. (Canada)

I am trying to think when a check might be useful and I can't....

For old people who a) don't have access to online banking / couldn't use it even if they had, b) don't want to keep masses of cash in the house (which many would be forced to if they have problems getting to somewhere where they can withdraw cash), and/or c) have to pay bills by post / local tradesmen (eg window cleaners, gardeners).

Banks may find cheques inconvenient, but for many older people they're essential.

Yes but if it's not account connected they send you a paper cheque...I think..

How would the sending bank know where to send the check? and how would the sending bank know that it's not account-connected? .... I wonder if the sending bank is looped-in on the receiving bank's e-mail, and that suppresses the issuance of a check?

I correct that frequently in draft documents, usually with the explanatory note, that e.g. is "some examples", and i.e. is "all/ the only example(s)" hoping, perhaps in vain, that they won't make the same mistake again.

When the credit union you financed your car through is old school and sends a payment coupon book for you to write checks and mail them to them. And yes I could get my credit union to send them the cash, but they are effectively doing the same thing and it would come all the way from California... Sigh... Some people/financial institutions don't want to move up to the 21st century!

That's the same as with my car, except it was through a bank, rather than a credit union. They sent us a book and we had to submit that with a payment by cheque every bloody month :D

Until fairly recently, when they switched to Direct Debit, our daycare would only accept cheques or cash for payments as well. There's always some time we need to write a cheque for something or other, even if we put most things on debit/credit cards or pay online. When I started working here, I had to supply a voided cheque so they could set up direct deposit for my pay.

I don't know, .... I think it's different, but then I have never used paypal to receive a payment, and only used it to send a payment a couple of times, and that was a number of years ago.

I had to do that as well...

And I don't write very many checks (except the monthly car payment.) But keep them handy because there's going to be something, you never know. :D

My biggest problem, also my husband, is that we don't ever carry cash with us!

I haven't been asked for one of those in a while, but I refuse to give anyone one (now I sound like Hungry Horace :( ). I always give them a photocopy, marked "void"; I paid for the checks, I'll be dämned if I'm trashing one and giving it away. :frown:

I carry the (paper) change from my most recent $20 bill drawn from an ATM. I think I have only drawn two this year so far.

We've paid off the cars so we rarely need them now except for paying our village sewer/water bills when we don't want to put them on a card and they come in handy for school photo orders and things like that.

I occasionally have cash on me from gig money on the rare occasion I get to keep some for myself, but most of the time I throw that in the bank unless I think I might need it for lunch at work or something.

Ha! You do sound like Hungry Horace

How much is a cheque worth, 15c? I've had to scrap more of them just by making a mistake when I am writing it than the one I gave work ...
