I just record the next show (or two depending on the length of them) if it's something that might run over, which is usually a World Cup match in the knockout stages. No extra time or penalties, I just delete them as they are then unneeded. Simples.

Why are some people still using cheque books at the checkout?

And not only that..they wait until the total has rung up and only then do they decide to dive into their bag looking for it!!

I don't get that either. Pretty sure I haven't had a checkbook since 1993-4

That's because they only open three of them at a time ...

They should really rename that the Shop, then Stop.

It pretty much is. I think there are maybe 15 - 20 checkouts total... Normally we see one actually open, sometimes two.

That's quite bad. I was using hyperbole with my three, at our local Walmart, out of 24 non self checkout likes there are usually about 7 actually open. I have been in there a couple of times where every single one is open though. Still takes seventeen weeks to get through though because there's always someone with half the shop in their trolley

No self scan? I love self scan, especially when I have my own personal checkout assistant with me. :)

I love self scan as well. I use it whenever I can, which is most of the time, except on a big shop. Even on the conveyor-belted ones I still can't bring myself to self scan more than 10/15 items.

Pet Peeve Super Gripe:

Of all the junk mail - the worst of the worst has got to be from:

The Neptune Society
for their
Pre-paid CREMATION discount plan sign-up
(always seems to arrive when I'm leaving house, on the way to an annual mammogram appointment or such...)

Next time one of these "invitations" arrives I'm gonna.....
steam it open,
scoop up a big wad of fireplace ashes,
place them in Neptunes envelope,
reseal and
scrawl in black marker, across address on front of envelope:

Deceased/ Please Return to Sender

and throw it in the mailbox.....

Then just sit back and wait for a visit from the postal inspector, because the USPS takes a dim view of sending noxious substances through the mail, and unidentified chemical powders is fairly high up the list of things they disapprove of.

I wish I hadn't....:(

With 3 kids in school, and a no cash, no credit card policy on a lot of things, I go through check books like crazy, especially around the beginning of the school year. Also, I leave checks for the lawn guy, pool guy, cleaner etc...I could pay cash, but at least with the check, you have proof you paid them!

I get through way more checks here than I ever did in the UK, although I have never used one at a supermarket checkout!

On the plus note, I do like the style of checks here, with the carbon copy below the check you tear out....I was always useless at moving my pen 3 inches to the left and filling out the stub...
