Not a peeve, but since getting initials/abbreviations/acronyms wrong came up, it makes me chuckle every time I encounter this Title Company which is often

Agreed, they have their place in the range of payment alternatives, though I have noticed that even tradesmen, such as the heating/ AC service guy, and the plumber (I used for replacing water heater thermocouple - I don't mess with natural gas lines) are equipped to take credit card payments these days.

Does it really matter? Actually, I find (at least for me).... it kind of does....seems to change the way we intuitively relate to each other - at least at the start - when we know nothing else about the person whose posts we read. PS....okay....found your 1st post....now I know: Yorkieabroad, you're not "Yorkie, a broad" but "Yorkie abroad". But that's likely wrong as well. |
Re: Pet Peeves?
Acronyms......why do they give you the acronym in brackets after the first time they use the full term in the article, only to never use the acronym again. Or, conversely, why do they use the acronym and not explain what it is the first time?
And why do people insist on using acronyms that no-one knows the meaning of? Our school district has ADA and non-ADA absences on the report cards. I have spoken to the attendance clerks in 4 different schools, and none of them could tell me what ADA stood for. So I called the School District, and no-one there knew either. The best I could get was that ADA counted for attendance for graduation, and non-ADA didn't. Or the other way round...but no-one knew what it stood for. And on the subject of School Districts, why do they always assume that everyone knows what they are talking about the first time they mention a new subject, especially in schools where more than half of the pupils are from overseas and so their parents haven't come up through the :frown::frown:US system Sorry, rant over...I'm off for a BOW and to WST then GTB |

Its getting so easy to accept card payments anywhere now...like you, I've paid plumbers and A/C guys, and last week in Cicago we used a lot of taxis and paid every one by card - a lot of them had a little white gadget about an inch square that plugged into the iphone and took a swipe. The first time I was given a written receipt, after that I was getting the receipts texted to me, even though I hadn't given the drive my cell number, so I assume the square thingy was hooking into my credit card database and accessing my info...hmmmm.....

Have you ever received a payment by e-mail? To receive funds I had to set up my Wells Fargo account to link to up to five e-mail addresses or phone numbers (for txts) ahead of receiving the payment. I was expecting to have to somehow "forward" the e-mail to Wells Fargo, as one would deposit a check. But no, when I received an email with a payment in it, somehow Wells Fargo had already "intercepted" the e-mail because I received an e-mail from Wells Fargo confirming receipt of the funds just a couple of minutes after I received the e-mail, and without me doing anything.
