Some people/financial institutions don't want to move up to the 21st century!

My last car loan the bank didn't accept checks...lol... Had 3 ways to pay

1. In person with cash at a branch

2. Online through online banking

3, Auto-payment from a checking account

Canadian companies are a bit more modern it seems, checks are still around, but more and more places will no longer accept them as payment.

It been 5 or 6 years since I've owned or written checks, the fact the bank charges 30 something dollars for 200 of the stupid things keeps me away from them, for direct deposit, most banks have a form you can print that provides an employers with the info needed, and its free, or you can get the form inside the bank and fill out by hand.

Supposed to say a hard time at work for being too quiet...lol.. Being awake all night sometimes makes one tired when typing and words are missed.

How much is a cheque worth, 15c? I've had to scrap more of them just by making a mistake when I am writing it than the one I gave work ...

If I make a mistake, I cross it out, write in the correction, then initial next to the correction. I have never had a problem, although when I went to the DMV recently to pay my vehicle taxes I had to make a correction, and did so per above. The clerk passed the check back, pointing to the area next to the correction, saying "you need to initial here." ..... She was pointing to my initials!

BTW I seem to recall that my checks cost me 7¢ each. :o

Either way, to me, that small amount for the one check has been more than offset by the money I've made since working here.

Especially since I won $500.00 in a raffle on a company outing in the summer

Around here, the only places other than the DMV I can go to pay for my sticker are Currency Exchanges. My bank stopped doing them a while ago. I always pay for those with a cheque when I get them.

So I guess I live in a sad, Victorian world as well :(

It's this talk of "cheques" and "going there".

I don't think I have been to DMV since I took my test 15 years ago. No internet? Or, at least, mail?

One that surcharges credit card payments to the state and local governments. Same for my property taxes and LLC annual fee, send a (7¢) cheque and use a (49¢) stamp, or pay $5 in surcharge for the privilege of saving the state/ county processing and handling fees. One day America will wake up to the fact that electronic transfers save everyone time and effort, and sticking the taxpayer with an extra fee is ridiculous. :frown:

On that we are agreed.

Maybe you can protest. Pay them in Kidneys or something.

Half the time they're not working.

When they do, they fall over when you have coupons...or when you've got more than about 5 things as the belt is to small and it has a fit when you either start to pack your bags before you've finished checking stuff in or because there's to much stuff on the belt.

If only they were legal tender I would. I'd certainly accept them as payment though. :nod;

Self scan is ok for small stuff I guess. They seem to break every time I pass within about 6 feet of them. If they don't break, they are always complaining that the "bag area is full" or "you took something off the belt" or something similar. Damn things are a PITA.
I would never try to do our full weekly shop with one.

Ah. I only went to the DMV to renew a sticker once, because it's on the way back from the emissions testing place, usually I go to the currency exchange round the corner from my gaff. I don't know if we can renew vehicle stickers online but I always leave it to the last minute anyway so it's better for me to pick it up in person

I didn't know we could renew our licenses online though, I just googled that. Should come in handy next year when mine expires
