That's a right pain in the arse, isn't it?

We have a little digital pressure gauge but it's invariably in the other car when we need it :D

So it's not just here then. What the hell is the point of an air hose with no guage???? It's one of the most moronic things I've seen.

No idea why they do that.

I am lucky that if I know I need air near the house, there is at least one gas station that has a hose with a gauge. It's also cheaper than the other local stations at 50c vs $1.00 a go.

There's a pet peeve - having to pay for the ****ing air ...

LOL, yeah. More so for me as right by the slot where you stick your 4 quarters is a sign saying under CA state law, gas stations have to provide free air

They still charge you for it, though?

Yep. I don't know whether you have to go in and ask for the compressor to be turned on and they figure most people will just stick 4 quarters in rather than walk in to see the cashier.

they charge for air in the UK too, 20p last time was there. And when i visited during a cold spell (with the salt on the roads which quickly gets on your windscreen) they were out of water. People were buying bottled water to fill up their water in their cars.

Everyone knows how the Brits love to charge for water :sneaky:

Here I got a craftsman 125 PSI 3 gallon 1.5hp compressor to take care of my tires for $60. Its in its 10th year of operation. What are you pikies doing at the gas station?

I foot/hand pump my car tires, (cheap skate) my related pet peeve is how flimsy these things are I bought three that lasted no time, before the brain engaged and told me to buy a different design.

Speaking of...electronic one at BJ's, default 32PSI, fair enough. Increments one at a time, till 38, then jumps to 40 and then in 5 PSI increments, but it only goes down in single increments.

Our tyres need 40PSI...and it always jumps over so I'm faffying around to get it set, to then use the thing.

And it always takes forever to do anything after someone else has used the thing, or after the first tyre.

Also, people who walk around taking off the caps, then do the tyre check, then walk around again putting the caps on.

Finally...how there's always a massive great big pucker of a drain right by the hose, begging for you to dance like a spastic trying to catch the cap and stop it from falling in because it's freezing out and your hands are knackered.

I used a foot pump for years, a practice I learned from my father. Then I bought a compressor for use with a floor nailer, and nail and staple guns, but I keep it in the garage and also use it for tyres, as well as soccer and basket balls, among other things.

If its any consolation my in-law has the below Stanley electric portable tire pump, and the nozzle broke off the 2nd time I used it. So in-law bought another similar one.

They are not charging you for the 'air'.
They are charging you for the use of their equipment and power.
