Why do American hand basins have those mechanisms inside them that make drainage very inefficient. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Rubber plug and chain anyone?

Rubber plug and chain anyone?

It keeps things like rings, toothpaste caps etc from going down the drain.

Do you spend much time waiting for the water to drain? .... I pop the plug up, then dry my hands, and honestly it makes no difference to me whether it takes 30 seconds or 30 minutes to drain.

I don't remember the last time I used a plug (hand-washing some clothing, perhaps?), but sometimes a sink is just not draining too well, and I like to see it fully drain so I can give it a quick blast of water to flush down any soap residue or toothpaste residue ... helps prevent a grimy sink ...

Personally, I dont care for two tap sinks.

Pet Peeve

Those bloody automatic faucets in restrooms. You have to wave your hand in a certain spot for the sensor, and if that isn't annoying enough, the water cuts out too dam quick.

And if that wasn't bad enough, the facet spout is too dam close to the basin sides. Being germophobic I do not want my hands to touch the basin.

Sometimes, especially hotels, if you're running the water for some purpose, it fills up faster than it drains.

"Germophobic" doesn't begin to describe you if an automatic no-touch tap causes you concerns about too much contact with the hardware.

I'd be more worried about what all the people who didn't use it had left on the door handle on the way out. :sneaky:

I suspected it was wrong and I welcome a correction. Couldn't be bothered with the old Googling this morning.:o
(And if someone could explain to me how a bloody sowing machine works...looping a thread through another one and all that gubbins.)

No thread on a sowing machine, the seeds just drop out.
