HELP!
Sorry., but it seems about normal here, I am on 10m

there should be no reason for it to be IE9 but then I am still running 7 (remember I didn''t think Stereo would be successful) and let others take the bumps out of it before I upgrade.

being on a rural line it might be a connection problem in that one or two connections are loose - and thats alot of connections.
have you reported it as a telephone problem ??

Not at the moment, I thought I'd wait until at least tomorrow to see how it goes.
The trouble is around here there are so few people with an Internet connection at all that it's not easy to check if it's a general fault or one specific to me.

I just tested again at almost 3am and got the fastest download I've ever had here....something must be going on!

on the basis that the more people there are to use the technology makes it go slower, that you have got a high speed when everyone with any sense (sri) is asleep means there is the possibility of a "new kid on the block" who is taking all the oomph. unless it is still a connection problem, where full sun is causing a connection problem and middle of the night, no sun, cooler the metal contracts back again.

its a PITA but you now need to take regular checks thru the 24 hours and also at weekends to see what figures you get to see which way it is going to fall.

Rural is slower and my understanding is that in the area you are every one is on a network, therefore depending where you are down the network and who else is on it and what they are doing will affect the speed.
It may also be that you have changed browser. Newer browsers are designed for those with the latest tech.

Well I guess what's been happening is that they have either been repairing the damage to the exchange in Malaga after the fire they had there...or they may have started on the promised upgrade to our local exchange.

Whatever it is that's been happening I'm now getting just slightly over 1Mb... which is all I expect on my rural connection
We even got a 2€ refund on our phone bill for down time.....now that's a first for Telefonica!

They upgraded me to 6 mb last week. They insisted I could have it. Shortly afterwards my internet went down, and now my internet speed is exactly the same .8 Mb that it was before

That's terrible......to get your hopes up then end up back where you started.

I must admit the slow speed doesn't really bother me too much, it just means it takes me longer than I would like when uploading photos to the web.
I don't play on-line games that's not a problem, but it is annoying if I want to watch something on U-Tube, I often give up to that one!

A better way to estimate what speed your line might be able capable of is to look at the attenuation as reported by your router, this is the single most important factor affecting your lines potential.

Once you have that then you can look it up on this chart, the number you arrive at will be a ballpark and theoretical maximum speed at which your router will synchronise with the exchange. Synchronisation speed and actual are not the same though and for reliability you are unlikely to see anything like that but might reasonably expect up to 50% - 70% of it.

Some routers will actually report the synchronisation speed, my old BT Voyager (hacked as it was locked to BT ) does.

I would say you are "within tolerance" for a busy city having lots of users

distance matters, the further from the exchange or repeater then the more signal loss = speed falls dramatically

Madrid is going to have lots of fibre which gets signal loss but its normally out in the sticks where all there is is a couple of bits of electric string where it matters most.
