Your INTERNET SPEED ?

OK, well ... imho I would change it to Firefox or Chrome as it's bound to make a difference of some sort .... IE will still be on your PC. Just dont choose Chrome as your default until you are sure you like it
Neither should affect your emails, unless something different has happened recently. You'll just open your emails in Outlook as usual.
I did download Thunderbird once for emails, but didnt like it ... I regret to admit that Microsoft mail seems to be the best for me at the moment

Right, I have downloaded Chrome and my email accounts are still intact. There is however no discernible increase in speed. Perhaps I should switch the computer off and then on again?

FireFox and Opera are fairly quick, but if you don`t have the power in your connection then they won`t make a lot of difference.
Go elsewhere as BT are failing to provide a service that is acceptable to your contract.
Gmail is one of the best mail programs at the mo, you can have all your mail in one place to read.

I know, I have Explorer, Chrome & Firefox and Explorer performs badly compared to the others.
We have friends here behind us who use Europa, and they get the same speed as us. It's because they cant provide any greater speed than the Telefonica line permits. Therefore if she is on rural, it wont make a difference. Telitec I have just investigated and they wanted €199 to set it up, and a big aerial on the side of the house

I should keep using Chrome for a day or so and then swap back to Explorer for a few hours and see what you think

OK, I know from experience that there is going to be a learning curve and I am quite willing to undergo this. What I am missing is my list - and it was extensive - of Favourites. There does not seem to be an icon for this, and there is no icon for Home Page nor for IE Outlook. It is still taking a long time to log in but once I am there searching the web does appear much faster, for which I am grateful.
Can I create a list of favourites in Chrome? Can I get an Outlook icon up there somewhere?
I really am grateful for the replies so far. I don't want to go back to the slate and stylus of my youth!

Oh, and there is no icon for me to return to my home page. Sorry folks.

Yes there is, just to the left of the tab where you type in urls. Theres a house (home) and next to that reload, and then a forward and back arrow. You can also have it set up so there are mini web pages on the screen for all your favourite sites

I thought Chrome was tabbed browsing similar to Firefox. just open your fav sites in a new tab each time, don`t delete them then just click on the tab and refresh the page to view the latest news on that site.
Every time you open Chrome all your sites will be across the tabs at the top line, then just click the one you want.

Thank you both - I told you it was for me a learning curve - I will experiment tomorrow - I'm just too tired now, and it's not just the heat!

Changing browsers does make a difference.

Yes ...... and to repeat, if you have ADSL rural with Telefonica then even if you get Telitec land line in, they cant give you a faster speed than the Telefonica line allows them to .... so for instance I end up with less than a MB. I can get Telitec wireless and have 9 MB, but as I say, it costs

Well just to revive this thread and to ask is anyone this weekend in the Malaga province having the same problem as me.
As I'm on a rural connection my speeds are never great but..... 0.09 as a download speed makes it not worth using. I have no idea if it's the line, a fault with Telefonica or the fact that I changed to Internet explorer 9 the other day.
HELP!
