Spain monitors Moroccan rocks for Sandy Bay

SCRUTINY: The Spanish warship Vigia is pictured above (left) sailing close to the cargo ship Hagland Boss (right), which arrived in Gibraltar at the weekend with a cargo of rocks from Morocco. In between them is the Royal Gibraltar Police patrol boat Sir William Jackson.

A cargo ship carrying rocks from Morocco for coastal protection works in Sandy Bay came under close scrutiny from Spanish authorities this week.

The Malta-flag 2,500-tonne Hagland Boss arrived in Gibraltar at the weekend from Nador and is anchored off Sandy Bay, where it is discharging rocks into a smaller barge for construction of groynes to protect the beach.

Probably a few quarry owners from Spain and their employees are a little upset by this

During phase three, two further vehicular entry channels into Gibraltar will be created at the Four Corners Station east of the existing channels.

Not sure what is happening here, alterations to the frontier access road would require co-operation from Spain

sounds like they are trying to get the border staff spread thin - either more queues or a measure of co-operation

What is it like entering Gibraltar on foot?

me me I have only been to Spain once this year, last week and that was by car.

I had sub-machine guns trained on me by the THUG SQUAD after I had passed the usual passport and customs controls, but I was not stopped.

As for pedestriams I believe there are few problems other than leaving the Rock after 5pm.

sounds like the days of knights on horseback when the King held Parliament in all sorts of places whilst roaming around the country

OK Aberdeen is well known for its oil connections but it is really a shadow of its former self

This is what it was like leaving on foot the other day. It was the day the FIFA draw was announced apparently...

Occasionally there is cooperation

Drugs seized in cross-border operation

Several Spanish men were arrested and drugs seized here and in Spain following a joint operation between the Royal Gibraltar Police and the Guardia Civil.

The RGP said it had arrested five Spanish men in Camp Bay and seized eight bales of cannabis resin weighing around 280 kilos.

Separately, the Guardia Civil said it had seized a rigid-hull inflatable boat loaded with 14 bales of cannabis resin weighing 420 kilos.

In a statement, the Guardia Civil said the drugs were located on a beach in Getares after a tip-off from the RGP about a vessel loaded with drugs in the bay.

Officers are investigating the possibility that the two drug hauls may be linked.

Last night, the five men were still in police custody here and helping officers with their enquiries
