Gibraltar

We have Gibraltar resident friends who come to their house in the Campo de Gibraltar for the weekends. Today it took 2 hours to leave Gibraltar - on a Sunday it's usually 10 minutes.
They say that the Gib restaurants are loving it.

We were in the huge Wok Real in Campamento mid week. Usually full of a mixture of local Spanish, Gibraltarians, holidaymakers and expats. It was empty.

i doubt UK will ever abandon Gibraltar. the British Empire has lost so much over centuries. need to keep some territory.
it's gonna be resolved. it's also a Royal Navy base correct ?
EUR50 per person per day is nice cash though for the Spanish gvt. (EUR 500,000 a day ? 10K people crossing every day, isn't it ?)
if only they would make the controls MUCH faster.
besides Spain has morocan territory too just the other side.

ROCKY TRIP
Meanwhile there were also reports that the freighter ‘Hamal’, flying a Cook Islands flag is bound for Gibraltar carrying an order of 2,700 tons of stone that the Government of Gibraltar has acquired through Sofareia, a Portuguese company to be used for the redevelopment of Sandy Bay.

Checking on http://www.marinetraffic.com the Hamal is berthed close to Faro, so I pressume the stone is being loaded there.

A barge carrying stones from Portugal arrived at the Gibraltar port yesterday. The ‘Fehn Mirage’ was escorted by Police vessels, after Guardia Civil launches came into Gibraltar waters to photograph the vessel.

This is a different ship to the one in my previous post, but the origin was still Portugal

In fact the full consignment is expected to reach over 20,000 tons of rocks and possibly other similar materials.
We understand the vessel is expected to make about 10 similar visits to and from the Portuguese end of the trip in Faro.
The Spanish unions have every right to be concerned that Gibraltar could turn to alternative labour from Morocco or Portugal. In so far as one of the contracts awarded the other week is concerned over the fence. I’m pretty sure that most of the construction labour and even possible materials, as we saw yesterday will come from abroad.

The Guardia Civil Maritime division are short of boats! One is broken down and another has gone to Algeciras on Gibraltar duties. Nice for the drug smugglers

Tories sold off the Royal Mail. Why not put Gibraltar on the market ?
