Well you couldn't make it up...or could you After the poll in the Telegraph asking is Gibraltar or Spanish an overwhelming majority said Spanish. Analysis of the votes showed that over five thousand of the votes in favour of Spain came from internet protocol addresses – or source computers - for Spain’s ministry of defence.

The clear response from the Europeapn Commissioner throws cold water on the politically motivated assertions made repeatedly by Spanish politicians in the media in recent months that Gibraltar is a tax haven as well as a centre for money-laundering. “Currently there are no infringement proceedings pending against the United Kingdom concerning the non-transposition of Directives on financial services in Gibraltar” said Mr Barnier
