Re: Port Arthur Massacre

It definitely has a poignant feel there, with so much history from the convict settelement, the boy's prison etc and then the more recent tragedy. I now work with some people who were involved in the...

$1500 part time? We both work, one full time and one part time, and only just earn that amount, wish we could both be part time and get that!

Re: The Cheese thread

Fantastic cheese here in Tassie :D but at a cost. The general supermarket choice is pretty bland and cheap, the local stuff, eg Bruny Island Cheese, Tongola, Grandvewe etc are delicious but pricey.

Re: ITF TKD School in ryde sydney?

We struggled to find a comparable TKD school for my son when we moved out here, (and being in Tas, we didn't have so much choice as you'll have) he ended up trying 2 different schools, one of which...

Re: What happens to our children if we die?

Good post, I appreciate as JAJ says that it is something that needs to be discussed with a qualified advisor but it is good to be reminded of this. We have been here for nearly 2 years now and have...

Re: Telstra - Security Fee!

Have fun with TIO as we have been to them twice because of the amazing number of mistakes that Telstra have made including taking over $1000 from my bank account one day as a result of a technical...

Re: Man missing in surf at lifesaving competition

Well said.

Very sad and especially tragic as many competitors had concerns about safety and had already spoken to the organisers on several occasions regarding this.

Re: Money from my house

Just a quick comment on one of the above posts saying that Natwest would not allow accounts with overseas addresses. I was with the Natwest in the UK, went in and explained the situation with, no...

Re: Sell your part of Australia

Tas:

Beautiful scenery + + +
Varied wildlife
Friendly people (mostly)
Lack of crowds (have been to beautiful places on public holidays and been the only ones there)
Lots of outdoor activities,...

Re: Myers

Would definitely agree with that, most of the sales staff haven't got a clue, you ask about whether it has got particular specs and they have no idea what you are talking about!

Did you open the...

Re: How do you find out school rankings (Ofsted type) in WA?

Saw something similar today, not sure why the unions are so against it. Similar information is readily available in the UK, but does not always influence what schools parents chose for their child,...

Re: How do you find out school rankings (Ofsted type) in WA?

New website coming 28 Jan will fill in some of the gaps but as always you have to read between the lines:

http://www.myschool.edu.au/

The unions have done their best to prevent information...

Re: Tasmania (continued!)

Hi again :)

Just to answer some of your questions:

Travel back to the UK is expensive, much more to fly Oz to UK than the other way round. I took my 2 children back last July as my mother was...

Re: WHY?

Vast areas of Tassie are already turning that pleasant shade of brown, and that's after the wettest Winter on record for some places here! The great wilderness of the Southwest of Tas remains green...

Re: Tasmania (continued!)

Yes, Tssie is small and they say never that everyone is related to or friends with everyone, and I have found that to be true! Having never really lived anywhere very big in the UK I don't find it a...

Re: REcommendations for NYE in Sydney - child friendly

Hi

I don't live in Sydney so this is purely my opinion based on being in Sydney a few days ago, it was great, it was lively, it was fun but if that is what it is like 2 weeks before Christmas I'm...

Re: Midwives - Over 45 - 457

Sorry, can't help with the 457 bit, there are certainly lots of hospitals crying out for midwives though.

Try asking in the nurses forum on here as you may get more answers from there.

Good...

Re: Has anyone else noticed that kids tell the time differently over here?

They say it in Tas too, my kids never said it until we came here but I've noticed it a few times now.

Definitely very odd but then again so is Tas ;)

Re: Tasmania (continued!)

By the way, I meant to say wet Autumn followed by wet Winter (not Spring) getting all confused with my seasons, I still think we should now be in Winter not Summer!!
