re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

+1
I agree.
If you are in favour of WFA as an expat then you aren't going to turn your nose up on a hand-out of £200.
If you are against giving £200 to everyone over 62 then you aren't going to be...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

In Paphos, the average January (lowest month) minimum temperature is 8 deg.
If the proposal is implemented then you won't be due it any more because them's the rules.
In the UK, elderly...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

According to my weather program, Paphos is showing a high of 19 deg and a low of 11 deg. Do you disagree with these figures?
London by comparison is showing 3 deg with a low of 1 deg.
North France...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

What temperature is it?
I am showing 12 deg for Malaga dropping to about 6 deg overnight.
Compare that with London @ 4 deg dropping to -1 deg overnight.

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

Please accept my apologies if I am mistaken but you perhaps understand why.
You joined the forum on February 2nd 2014 in the Portugal section where you discussed buying a boat to use on Formosa...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

Are you not the guy who lives in Portugal (winter sunshine) and was asking in Feb 2014 about buying a small 4 - 5 seat boat with outboard motor?
I am talking about people who live in colder...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

For the avoidance of doubt, I want the WFA and the bus passes stopped for everyone other than those who need them.
Child benefit was also stopped for those on higher incomes.
I think that you are...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

The situation in France may be quite different - but Portugal.
Lisbon is showing 13 deg max and 7 deg min.
Faro is showing 16 deg max and 7 deg min.
You still aren't going to get a lot of sympathy...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

Are you serious?
How many UK residents (or MPs) are going to be sympathetic to someone in Cyprus wanting a WFA?
Do you want a free bus pass as well?
I would be more interested in restricting such...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

Future pensioners are already contributing massively to the welfare cuts.
The delay in pension age to 67 saves millions each year and when you add in the additional income tax and NI payments for...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

I sympathise with your situation but the current benefits system is not appropriate for present-day society.
The bankers you refer to will also receive the WFP if they are the correct age.
A friend...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

Only 40% of personal taxation is Income Tax.
The rest is NIC and indirect taxation (VAT) which provides the other 60%,
As a UK OAP you are not required to pay NIC on your income unlike France.
You...

re: Winter Fuel Allowance - Europe pensioners and expats.

Had a discussion with a friend last night and she was angry about having to wait an additional 7 years to get her State Pension.
She will lose out on £50k in total. £7k+ per year for 7 years.
