Re: Pledge of Allegiance

I teach in a middle school and the kids say the pledge every morning. I just stand respectfully and say nothing. Of course, I have a union flag hanging next to the stars and stripes so the little...

Re: Looking for tropical getaway recommendations

In 2009 we spent a week here:

http://www.ottleys.com/

St. Kitts itself is very beautful and not too touristy. It was very quiet on the days there were no cruise ships (which was most of the...

Re: Texas House identifies $31BN (17%) in budget cuts

Well as one lawmaker in California put it: "All those people wishing for smaller government are going to get it."

Re: Just moved to Las Vegas

I discovered a new English pub down in Henderson the other week. It's called Shakespeare's and is on Eastern and Coronado Center. Fairly decent, though I think it's part of a chain.

Re: Manchester to Atlanta with Delta or Northwest?

I've not flown that route, but I have flown Delta transatlantic. The entertainment was just an overhead screen, so it kind of sucked, but I like Delta because they've never let me down...which is...

Re: Bryce Canyon, Utah

Love the Utah Canyon country.
I remember seeing a stuffed mountain lion in the visitor center at Bryce, and being shocked at how large it was. Previously I had thought they were basically the same...

Re: UK qualifications/credential verification

I have been through this exact same process. I'm a teacher in Nevada, and I used ECE Inc. out of Milwaukee, WI. Basically my A-Levels were the equivalent of actual college credits, my 3 year 2:2 from...

Re: St Kitts anyone? $79.00 a night

We spent a week there this summer. Stayed at Ottley's Plantation Inn, and one night at the Marriott after our flight home was canceled (Thanks a lot, AA!). Lovely little island with nice beaches and...

Re: Teaching

It varies from state to state, but here in NV:

Many states have an 'alternate route to licensure' for people who want to take up teaching as a second...

Re: Any Vegas Residents Here?

I've been there a couple of times when shopping with the wife at Town Square. They really do have that many beers, plenty of European and British brands, and loads of micro brews I've never heard of...

Re: Anyone flying Northwest/Delta be prepared for the Sky Team experience...

Might be worth sending a complaint email. We had a nightmare AA flight from St. Kitts recently-the only flight on the day we were due to fly home was canceled, so we had to fly home the next day. The...

Re: Oh, you have a green card? Please face the camera..... Oh and welcome home

Perhaps, though this officer was being very thorough. Our line was the slowest moving (it seemed like that anyway!). In fact, one guy with a PR card got hauled off to secondary.

Re: Billy May Dead

I was on an AA flight the other day and read that exact same article. I was thinking of having a look at his and Anthony "Sully" Sullivan's reality show after reading it. Guess I won't be able to now.

Re: Oh, you have a green card? Please face the camera..... Oh and welcome home

I passed through passport control at Miami last week with my USC wife and didn't have to do any of the US VISIT stuff. The nice lady just scanned our passports and my PR card, asked us where we went...

Re: Will the missus' teaching qualification be any good in U.S.?

She would have to get her college transcripts converted into their US equivalent, and depending on the state, sit some Praxis tests (these are fairly easy) or perhaps take a couple of college...

I'm a Brit, wife is USC, and had AOS interview at Milwaukee in February 2005. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the interview (more of a chat really) lasted about 15 minutes. The very nice lady...

Re: Phone Interviews for jobs

Regarding the degree, I got my BSc Hons translated here and found it was the same as regular old bachelor's degree. There seems to be a myth that a UK degree is the same as a masters over here, but...

Re: Just wondering

Many towns in Germany have foods named after them-hence the infamous JFK "Ich bin ein Berliner" urban legend.

A berliner is a type of doughnut.

Re: Travelling to US on VWP while I have a K1 fiance application pending

I did this in 2003-basically went to visit my fiancee for a month in the summer whilst the 1-129F was pending. I took documents explaining that I was expected back in the UK for work/apartment and...
