Amazing how things change. When we moved out West it was almost double the cost of ON with the same insurer (State Farm).

Holy moly! That insurance is brutal. Mine is only half that on a 2012 Truck with full business use and commuting. Would be cheaper still if I could be bothered to shop around. It used to be...

I've got a fully loaded 2012 Ram 1500 Sport which is great with the heated steering wheel and heated/cooled seats. Drives very well for a truck. Though to be honest I preferred the 2007 Titan I had...

When we moved from Ontario to Alberta our insurance rates went up quite substantially. We stayed with the same company though and it was 10 years or so ago.

Sounds more like an electronic issue than a straight transmission fault. I assume it's a fly by wire system on those?

You can however see a lot further ahead and prepare for trouble that way. Mind you, I'm not sure many Canadian drivers look further than the back of the car in front.

Snow on the panels in the winter doesn't help much. OK if you've a bungalow, not so easy to remove with a 2 story house.
