Going to look at an F-150 tomorrow...
Anyone have any experience with these?
It's a 2012 Ecoboost FX4 pack from a Ford dealer. It's mileage (kilometreage??) is on the high side for the fact its only just over a year old (almost 35,000) but that is reflected in the price.
i've read a few reviews online, but interested to see if any of you have assimilated and bought Canada's #1 Pickup truck and what you thought of it personally
Seems the jury is still out on this Ecoboost technology, but Ford are pushing it really hard so it looks like it could be the future!

Sounds good, I advocate buying 1 - 3 years old and you get the truck loaded for the price of a new bare-bones model.

Re: Going to look at an F-150 tomorrow...
if they can give me a good enough trade in price on the Honda, i might just come home with it (well, figuratively speaking)
the only thing this is missing is the leather interior, which would have been nice but not really essential!

I advocate leasing new for the continued very compelling deals. Why take the depreciation hit even on nearly new when you can drive new for 2 years for less outlay?
I've done 5k on my 2013 ecoboost. Love it so far. Getting 16.7l per 100//km which is better than the Jeep Liberty I ran 7 years ago.

OH has just popped out, I know there are some issues with some models with the ecoboost, he'll be back in a mo...
Here he is,from experience working at a ford main dealer i would recommend staying well away from an ecoboost that is the one engine/trans we have problems with, there is an outstanding transmission concern with no fix from ford and theres a problem with the intercoolers freezing the depositing big chunks of ice into the turbos, destroying them, these trucks are fine in warmer places but dont perform well on our really cold days, turbos need instant oil pressure to survive start up and thats not possible at -30. having driven a few they lack power under load as well, the last one we borrowed struggled on hills with our car trailer.if your after a f150 the 5 litre is the best option with plenty of power and overall fuel consumption almost the same as the ecoboost.the 5.4litre is a bit more thirsty, and the 6.1litre is a gas pig, hope this helps

out of interest, are there any current model Fords you'd actually recommend?

I have a f-150 FX4 2010 5.4L and am looking to change, fancied a new 2013 FX4 3.5L eco boost myself test drove one and it seems a nice drive interesting what the others have mentioned about the 5.0L being nearly as good on gas as the 3.5L eco'. My current F-150 is giving me 13 AVG / 100km ( that what it tells but sure doesn't seem like it ) One reason why I like the F-150 crew cab is the large flat floor area once the rear seats are folded away comes in handy for the dogs.

Ford's are a solid choice, they have a good distribution network so the parts are cheaper compared to less established companies in Canada. They are well made (on the whole). I would recommend going to an actual Ford Canada official dealer rather than a franchise though, they will take much better care of you if there are any issues than the franchises which only care about the final sale.
I have a 2007 Ford Escape and it's a great vehicle, big enough to fold the seats down and transport large items of furniture and appliances, not had firsthand experience of the F-150 but I've not heard a bad thing said about it.

I had a 2012 F150 Ecoboost FX4. Endless problems with electronics and the transmission. After over 6 months of wrangling with Ford they admitted they had no idea how to fix it, so took it back and supplied me with another. It's showing the same symptoms (a 2013 model year). Two staff at the dealership also had similar issues with 2012 models.
Previously I owned/leased several V8 model F150s. They each had major warranty issues (suspension failure, fuel pump replacement and steering rack issues). I wouldn't buy another Ford truck.
BTW, my 2012 Ecoboost had 28,000kms when Ford took it off my hands. They valued it at $25k trade price. It had a sticker price of $53k before incentives/discounts when new. Depreciation is nasty if you trade in during the first few years.

I dont hear him complaining about many models, just the ecoboost and how much he hates escapes, so the rest must be ok. I know there have been issues with mustangs too. We have had several trucks, escapes, expeditions, mustangs but tend to go for slightly older ones - when you have as many as we have you can't afford new I should think when a 5.0l becomes affordable one of those will be tested long term. Out of the 30 vehicles we have right now 10 are fords so they cant be all bad lol (and no I am not happy with that many cars)

Anyway, I didn't get to test this one today, as when I got to the dealer, it had literally just been sold half an hour previously, which was very unlucky! So I stopped by a Toyota/Scion dealer on the way home and tried out a Tundra...gorgeous truck and Toyota have a 0% finance deal on all trucks right now...looks like another one going in the mixing pot

Haggis, we rented a dodge 1500 hemi, loved it, so did oh. Only problem waas when the truck was loaded with bits of car and towing a car trailer with 1976 ford gran torino, it went a bit soft in the suspension but it was good on gas, and comfortable. I know we would look at one of those in a couple of years.

Re: Going to look at an F-150 tomorrow...
i like the Dodge too, its also on the shortlist, but i'd love to see what it's like with the V6 TDi...i don't do a lot of towing (heaviest thing is the Ninja) but i'd like the options and space that the full sized trucks offer these days
i did test a 4.7 Magnum RAM a while back, but it was utter dogshit, just felt really crap and slow
thing i like about the Tundra is that TRD offer a (manufacturer warrantied) supercharger kit for it which boosts the power to 500bhp, and all for a reasonable $4500
