It seems you can take the test as a tourist, at least according to this post on the www.lifeintheuk.org site. Though I would check with the Home Office to make sure....

We also returned from Australia about a year ago and so glad we did. So much variety in a small area. Lovely walks in the country without feeling uncomfortably hot. Beautiful scenery!

How do you get a Spouse Visa quickly? We've been told by the British High Commission that they have been taking 12 to 14 weeks to obtain for the last 2 years. So how come some people on this site...
