Re: Whinging Pom House seller (The Continuation)

I wish you the best of luck, I really do, but I think that's a high risk strategy. If you look the last housing market collapse in real (inflation adjusted terms) the peak of the market was in July...

Re: Racism - Australia

That is funny but why 'power point'?

I find the cheerful and casual racism of many Australians one of the reasons I like living here.

Re: renting/equity how does this work??

The taxable amount is income - offsets NOT income - expenses and the mortgage payments are not necessarily a 100% tax offset. Professional advice is required!

Re: renting/equity how does this work??

That's incorrect, you can't offset the entirety of the mortgage payment against the rental income although you can offset some rental expenses and in any event it must be declared. Also, there is no...

Re: Costs of protectionism

Even prior to the GM acquisition in 1931 Holden used Chevrolet and Dodge chassis so they were never really a car manufacturer in the operative form. Also, they weren't successful immediately prior to...

Re: Costs of protectionism

Yes. Can you imagine if the Post Office were still the monopoly provider of telecomms services? It would be like Cuba where you have to go to the Post Office and fill in a form to send an email.

Re: Whinging Pom House seller

I think the overall effect is neutral for anybody that is emigrating. An interest rate cut might provide a mild stimulus to the mortgage market but it will make the GBP weaker against the AUD.

Re: Caboolture district

Buy a Bonds blue singlet. You'll be needing it in Caboolture.

Re: House Auctions in the UK

We did it with one of our UK properties and it was very quick and easy - albeit in 2003 when the housing market was rampant and not dying on its arse like now.

It cost 2.5% commission plus the...

Re: Need help from Agents and/or ex military personnel..

Yes, I lost mine too. I did a stat. dec. and supported it with a notarised copy of every page in my logbook. It wasn't a problem for me.

Re: anyone flown on the A 380

Well, I was there and know no such thing. It happened at about 150 knots, after V1 but before VR and while on the ground.

Re: anyone flown on the A 380

Again, incorrect. I flew the A320 around for over an hour on one engine at 5,000 feet burning fuel to get it light enough to land.

Re: anyone flown on the A 380

Incorrect. If the engine failure occurs after V1 (take off decision speed) then, yes, the aircraft can take off. I've done it in the A320.

Re: anyone flown on the A 380

Only 25% of the A380 is composite. It's a pretty conventional design in many ways as the existing long haul types (A340, 777) are already 10-15% composite. The 787 will move the game on considerably...

Re: anyone flown on the A 380

I flew it in Business class on SIN-SYD a couple of weeks ago and it's pretty comfortable but it takes a long time to get all the punters on and off. It also had a rather nasty, loud hydraulic surge...

Re: OMG! Election could end up in court

The two situations aren't directly comparable though as, unlike New Labour in the UK, the ALP hasn't had its Clause 4 Moment yet.

I'm not sure that a Rudd victory will 'screw' the economy but...

Re: OMG! Election could end up in court

From the amount of money that the unions have poured into this election it's pretty apparent that Rudd is going to have a hefty butcher's bill from them if he wins. As he seems more tempermentally...

Re: Police checks -for many countries

Bahrain would have been impossible by mail (in the time available) and I had to go back there for a few days.

Re: Police checks -for many countries

You have to do them all. I had to do three (Bahrain, Belgium and UK) and it was extremely difficult and time consuming.

Re: I Am Devastated And Outraged

I think this is, possibly catastrophically, bad advice. Your job offer will have been made subject to satisfactory security clearances. The fact these could not be obtained (the reason why is...

Re: Whinging Pom House seller

It's not "worth" 150k if nobody will offer that.

I wasn't counselling Daunted to accept this offer just pointing out the market is heading down and sentiment has turned so she needs to be very...

Re: Whinging Pom House seller

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/pdf/p/hpi/HousePriceIndex17thSep2007.pdf

UK house prices dropped 2.6% in August! I'd be wary about telling any more people to stick their offers. They're not making low...

They didn't speak Latin in the Holy Roman Empire as it was a German empire that lasted from the middle ages until the early 19th Century. It was very wittily described by Voltaire as "Neither holy,...

Re: My husband does my F-ing head in!! grrrrrrrrrrr!!!

If all these men are so lazy, stupid and useless why did all you women agree to spend the rest of your lives with them? I'm genuinely curious.
