Rudd might be good for the country as he seems good at kissing Chinese ass.
John Howard was more suited to kissing the USA's ass but china has more money at the moment.

I remember the same just before labor came to power in the UK, people saying the stock market would crash etc. Bugger all happened, screwing the economy is not something that happens over night, it will take them a few years

The two situations aren't directly comparable though as, unlike New Labour in the UK, the ALP hasn't had its Clause 4 Moment yet.

I'm not sure that a Rudd victory will 'screw' the economy but there are certain things that can be predicted with a high degree of confidence:

- Increased costs for employers (and the government which is a huge employer) which will be passed on as inflationary price rises leading to...

- Higher interest rates, which I don't think is a totally bad thing as the Australian economy needs some of that bitter medecine to curb the current debt fuelled mayhem and speculative real estate bubble.

Any idea of when this might be? I know the polling stations close a lot earlier in Aus than the UK but not sure when the results start coming through - i need to plan my Saturday night around seeing this moment!
