My goodness - if you can afford to live in a good area of Valencia I can't understand your preoccupatiom with VAT? and just think what you will save on tips in restaurants etc as the staff get paid...

I will miss calling into the Eroski cafe, they were always nice and patient with my Spanish and I never felt out of place having a coffee on my own. Any tips anyone for good alternative cafes around...

Lots of time then to do your research and Google maps are great for checking out the different areas. Don't know how important the underground transport will be to you - be sure and double check it...

make sure that you check out the general area - the plastic greenhouses have been spreading further inland.

The drive from Malaga is certainly more scenic - especially along the stretch of motorway completed now . I was quite impressed last time I passed along it!

Personally, the plastic in the general area would worry me.

Once the motorway is up and running it will give you faster access to Almeria/Malaga airports and of course, Motril and Granada.
