Default Levothyroxine Medication

Hi

In the uk i have to get my prescription once a month and see the Doctor for a blood test yearly.

However in Spain will i be able to buy these over the counter, I know what strength i have to take, also i still will go for a blood test once a year but it will save a lot of hassle if i do not have to go to the doctors once a month.

Thanks
xxxx

Take your packet to the farmacia and ask them, they're very helpful.

It used to be quite easy to get things over the counter but, certainly where we live, it is now necessary to get prescriptions for antibiotics and certain drugs. I´m taking Eutirox for my thyroid problem and it´s only available on prescription. Take enough with you for a few months, if your UK Dr will prescribe them for you, that will give you time to check out whether or not you can get them without prescription. Tell him you´re going to Spain for a few months, that might do it.

When I wasn't registered with the doctor in Spain, I took the packet which I had been prescribed in the UK into the pharmacy and they gave me the same strength tablet but it was under a different generic name. Cost approx €3. Now the doctor prescribes a 3 month supply and thereafter repeat prescriptions.

I just walk in to the chemist when I run out with the old packet and they sell me another pack for about 3 euros. Have done that for 6 years now.

I am the same, the chemist just checks my old packet (Levothyroxine) and replaces it.

My UK doc will only prescribe one month's supply. When I ran out in Spain I had to get a prescription from a local doc. An annual blood test remains a must - even though my dose has changed only once in 37 years.
