Re: Retirement/2nd Career/Army

Great idea to start investigating now. That's what we did, before we had even been to Canada. It's easier to decide you don't want to go after you have applied than have to start the application...

Re: Tempory Work Permit or Permanent Visa?

To be brutally honest, in the current climate, the chances of getting a company to go through the paperwork exercise to go the Temp Work Visa route is virtually nil. I have a Canadian friend who's...

Re: Nova Scotia - How is it?

Yes there is a 'moving to Canada' program in place with some of the banks put in place specifically to help immigrants. RBC were very helpful to us and we had no problem. Drop me a PM if you want...

Re: Nova Scotia - How is it?

Tracy
The school system kind of baffles me to be honest!. Fall River has better than average schgools. The two elementary schools are Holland Road Elementary and Ash Lee Jefferson Elementary. Only...

Re: Nova Scotia - How is it?

Hi everyone and thanks for your responses. I have left it a while before I post my thoughts because of Christmas/New Year and the associated craziness with all that.
Anyway, a bit of background. My...

Re: Where Do I Start....?

When you say you know Canada has a better system to look after their Senior Citizens...not sure how true that is. We still need to pay so much into the Canada Pension Plan to be entitled to an Old...

Re: The Brit Superstore Online...

Makes me really grateful for Pete's Frootique in Halifax/Bedford. Though to be honest, there is very little we crave. We buy Robertsons Squash and Bisto Gravy Granules and that's about it. If we go...

Re: Fog in Nova Scotia

We live in Fall River (15 minutes out of Halifax inland towards the airport) and rarely get fog. Unless you are intending on living in a coastal area, then I don't think fog will be an issue. Where...

Re: Dual National Query?

Just a quick one - did you have a destination in mind? I know everyone is saying go to Alberta, but wondered if you had decided on a province/territory. The reason I ask is that I live in Halifax, NS...

Re: Income Tax and VAT in Canada - some advice please

CPP and EI are capped, so you pay the 4.95% and 1.73% up to a predefined monetary limit which for 2010 is $2163.15 and $747.36 respectively. So the more you earn, the sooner you hit the cap and stop...

Re: Insurance Cover for New Arrival?

Very much depends on your province of landing. In Nova Scotia you are covered as soon as you register, but as a previous post said, go through Canadasure, then you have no worries. (Especially if you...

As we rapidly approach our 5th Anniversary of landing here in Nova Scotia, we sometimes sit down with friends and get asked the same two questions. Why did you leave the UK, and why did you choose...

Re: Is it really better in Canada?

If we'd stayed in the UK we would have been mortgage free in 2 years. Not so now. Admittedly we have a much bigger house, more space etc. but to be honest the novelty is wearing off. Mowing your acre...
