Re: Things to stock up on!!

There are very few things we 'stock up' with, on visits to UK.... just about everything we want is available here, or we've 'converted' to a Spanish equivalent (cheese, for example). It's fun to try...

Re: Intend moving to Quesada in 2 years - how would you be planning?

As far as I'm aware they both refer to the same place, Gua(r)damar del Segura, a lively and pleasant(IMO) resort town to the North of Torrevieja. Lots of nice cafes, restaurants and beaches(although...

Re: Intend moving to Quesada in 2 years - how would you be planning?

Hi
We are a retired couple living in Quesada for just over 2 years and really liking it.
We lived the previous 22 years in... yes, Milton Keynes (well, Bletchley, actually) :D
A great place to...

Re: Car Insurance in Spain

I am with Linea Directa , about 350E for a Ford Focus, IIRC. They have been highly recommended and were slightly less expensive than Ibex via knights.

I am in the process of making a claim, having...

Re: Cold in winter

I depends where you live: Central and Northern Spain get VERY cold, with snow, and here on the Costa Blanca it gets cold in Jan/Feb.
I doubt that the Southern coastal area often does, but others...

Unhappy Re: UK Driving License in Spain

It's very important, IMO, to have a notarised copy of your UK licence, if you intend to continue using it, AND to register it with Trafico.
If you lose your licence, DVLA won't give you a...

Re: Prescription Medicines

You can certainly buy more drugs, such as Atenolol (for High BP), and some antidepressants(eg amitryptilene) OTC, without scrip, than in UK, but others, such as benzodiazepines(eg Valium) & many...

Re: Fitting Uk Sky Boxes In Spain

I don't know where your property is, Gill, but I recommend you go to this website

http://digiboxes.billnot.com/

and contact its owner, Bill Hayles, who is the most knowledgeable person I know...

Re: White Goods In Spain

Just be careful when plugging-in that you get the correct polarity, ie the 2-pin plug is in the right way around.

I was told by an electrician that the reason my v expensive hifi amplifier blew a...

Re: importing our car to spain.HELP?

Sorry, shoo, I misunderstood you.
Yes, there is an appalling number of untaxed & hence uninsured UK-reg cars here, in the Torrevieja area.
The Guardia had a 'swoop' in Ciudad Quesada a few weeks...

Re: importing our car to spain.HELP?

As long as Spain & UK are both members of the EU, I find it hard to believe that Spain could get away with making the use of rhd cars illegal (or, for that matter, that UK could ban lhd).

I find...

Re: importing our car to spain.HELP?

My Spanish plates & docs were supplied (for a reasonable fee!) by a Trafico officer who speaks English with a Yorkshire accent and supplements his fairly meagre GC income by 'moonlighting' this way :)

Re: Living and Working in Spain "The Book"

This book and others like it provide useful 'guidance', but I would advise against taking it as 'The Word'.
Things appear to change in Spain from week to week, and every region seems to make up its...

Re: Advice Needed

Everyone will give you differing advice on the same subject - and they may ALL be correct, as every place seems to have different 'rules'. (And today's bureaucrat may apply them differently from...

Re: Sky Tv In Spain

If you join the Yahoo group costablancaexpats, Gill, they have IIRC an FAQ on this subject, AND an associated TV chat group, with some 'resident experts' who'd be able to answer ALL your TV-related...

Re: Importing a new car into Spain

I am importing a 5yo Focus (because I've had it from new & it has lots of extras, so I'd lose a packet if I'd sold it!).

It will have cost me about 850Euros, including getting the lights changed,...

Re: Living on a budget

Nor do I, Tricia :)

However it is somewhat academic in my case as I don't have 36000 to invest :(

Re: how do you convert uk plates to spanish, and how much does it cost ?

I'd doubt it would be.
I paid less to insure my Focus on UK plates than I had to pay in UK.
Don't know how much on Spanish plates yet!

Re: how do you convert uk plates to spanish, and how much does it cost ?

If you lived near me, I think I could point you at someone who'd do it for about 650 - hardly worth it on such a low-value vehicle :(
I doubt you could do it for much less.

Re: Living on a budget

"Up here in Valencia 93€ per month (1,116€ per annum). Mind you, you need to buy a share in the club to be a member - currently 36,000€. I've already made a profit (on paper) on mine. In 18...

Re: how do you convert uk plates to spanish, and how much does it cost ?

That is a very comprehensive website, and hence rather 'indigestible' ;) .

If you have a medium-priced UK-reg car, a few years old,(eg a V-reg Focus) it will cost you in the region of 850Euros to...

Re: Living on a budget

I can assure you that on 1400 for TWO people, there isn't a lot of golf to be played, at 40+euros/round or 1500E for annual membership :(
Admittedly the G&Ts are cheap :)

Re: Living on a budget

I'd say it's possible but it would require a high degree of 'frugality' :)
We are near the coast which IS quite a lot dearer, but we find it quite tough for 2 retirees, on about 50% more :(
The big...
