Re: Declaring worldwide assets to Hacienda

I agree with all of that, and I'm not disputing what you put on the form. I still believe Hacienda is expecting you to declare a property that was worth more than 50,000€ as of December 2012.

Re: Declaring worldwide assets to Hacienda

All countries have house price indexes based on purchase price, date and location.

It would be more logical for Hacienda to use an official table based on acquisition cost rather than someone...

Re: Declaring worldwide assets to Hacienda

It seems pretty obvious to me that property valued at 50,000€ or more at Dec 31 2102 needs to be declared. Most people would know if a property is worth more or less than 50k, without getting an...

Re: Sky TV/ Satellite changes

Do a speedtest at speedtest.net and use the formula I've posted above.

I've got 2.6mb and tend to stack programmes up overnight.

Re: Sky TV/ Satellite changes

At least with the catch-up services on Sky+HD they use progressive download rather than streaming, so broadcast quality HD is available to the slowest speeds of ADSL.

Multiply your speed x 3600...

Re: Sky TV/ Satellite changes

I believe only the BBC catch-up service is available with Sky+ sub. You need the £21 entertainment pack to get ITV, C5 and Sky.

The ITV Player is ad free on Sky catch-up, unlike the web based...

Re: Sky TV/ Satellite changes

Get a Buffalo dd-wrt router (less than £30 on Amazon) and a VPN account (£40 a year) and you can use your Sky+ box for all the catch up services(BBC, ITV, C4 Five and Sky) on your Sky+ box.

Re: Sky TV/ Satellite changes

The BBC iPlayer via Sky+HD boxes is broadcast quality HD.

As it uses progressive download rather than streaming, it is OK with all ADSL speeds.

e.g. The Killing from BBC HD is 2.59gb for 58...

Re: taking a dog back to the UK

Don't forget it has to be done at least 24 hours before checking in and no more than 120 hours.

Easier to get it done at home before you leave, unless you're taking more than five days to drive...

Re: Will you be driving back to the UK?

Driving to the UK last week we saw a van in a traffic jam going the other way that did Spain to UK pet transport. It could have been this company.

Re: DOG: UK ferry to France/Spain; rabies check

DFDS only charge for France to UK and it's £30. Worth checking if you can find a cheaper crossing with P&O as they only charge £15. DFDS is better coming from the UK as it's free for pets.

Re: DOG: UK ferry to France/Spain; rabies check

We've done more than 20 crossings and never been asked for passport in UK. That is by cross channel ferry. Never flown or used the tunnel.

Re: DOG: UK ferry to France/Spain; rabies check

We use DFDS (formerly Norfolkline) and they do take Pet Passports.

Little tip. DFDS only charge for pets when going from France to UK (about £30). They're free the other way.

P&O charge about...

Re: Using Debit Card in France

That's slightly different. You're using a self service pump where you're telling them how much you want to spend. The full amount is debited along with a credit if you were under.

The OP is...

Re: Do you find the general cost of living cheaper in Spain than in the UK?

What we save on Council Tax (here 244€ + 114€ Basura, compared to £1000 in the UK) and water (here less than 1€ M3 in UK £4.50 M3) offsets any other things that are more expensive here.

Five bed...

Re: Do you find the general cost of living cheaper in Spain than in the UK?

Although ADSL may appear expensive in Spain, you need to compare the products.

On my exchange in the UK the cheapest I could get was a 'retention' deal with BT. I pay £18 per month for phone line...
