Re: Any families in Australia living on combined gross income of less than $100,000 a

Look I've just received terrible news from the UK. My 6 year old nephew is dying and I am preparing for the worst. I just don't need this right now!

Re: Any families in Australia living on combined gross income of less than $100,000 a

$265. I know what you're going to say: 'You wouldn't get an apartment for that in Sydney etc etc'.

My reply to that would be to move elsewhere if people find it too expensive there. There are...

Re: Any families in Australia living on combined gross income of less than $100,000 a

I find this thread totally baffling...

I came to Aus 5 years ago with only $3K and immediately put $1K of that on a bond. Two years later I had enough money to buy an apartment in one of the best...

Re: To move from the UK or not?????

Yours is a question that needless to say has been asked countless times on here. do a search using said function to see what some previous threads have said.

FWIW, some people find moving here was...

Re: Does the job even exist??

If you settle here then you qualify for Citizenship after a while too; four years in my case (from entry, not from when I got PR). Since I only got citizenship in August, I'm guessing it's still 4...

Re: Does the job even exist??

Permanent Residency. Something you can get on entry if you have the right type of visa, otherwise you would have to do what I did and come on a temporary visa and apply for PR after an alloted time...

Re: Wikipedia Blackout Protest

Just about sums Wiki up. I personally love it; and it's not as if you can't follow up the sources of reference.

Wiki will challenge biased info and statements that aren't adequately sourced; two...

Re: Will you ever lose your British accent?

I occasionally catch myself saying 'Naaoouu' instead of No...

I was talking to a man at the bus stop late last year who had a virtually impenetrable Scottish accent.

"I'm on holiday" he said...

Re: Rumour: Air Asia to axe London route

BA are thinking of axeing all of their Aussie routes too. I don't know if this is public knowledge yet; the only reason I know is that my sister and her husband both work for them.

Such long-haul...

Re: Airlines, Avoid or use

You can often get good deals going direct to an airline's own website. I found the cheapest flight to Taipei in April (Cathay) by doing this.

One word of advice, if it hasn't already been...

Re: Where are the native Melopsittacus undulatus?

As I've pointed out, this isn't necessarily the case. Both sites I've seen them were off tarmac roads; the latter off Highway 1!

Re: What's the most underrated place in Australia

Broome: probably my favourite place in Aus after the Wet Tropics.

Surprisingly civilised little place; great little shops; beautiful location, great wildlife.

I also love the area around...

Re: Where are the native Melopsittacus undulatus?

I've seen thousands only a few hours from Cairns (Georgetown). They've had a population boom since all the rain in the outback. I've also seen them in coastal WA at Mairee Pool, not a million miles...

Re: Christopher Hitchens RIP A Legend

His comments on Iraq were an aberration and puzzled many a fan, but that aside, he was a breath of fresh air and a true intellectual.

Re: How many goals will the world's best team score today?

The Swiss game was a fluke.

Having lived in Spain I know how utterly different their attitude to the game is. Highly technical players are coached that way from a young age and seen as the norm,...

Re: Aussie flies (warning: Icky insect pics)

Screw-worms are one of the most gruesome. They live in South America. The fly crawls up your nose and lays an egg up there. The egg hatches and grows into a huge two inch maggot with big jaws that...

Re: 2 British Girls Looking for Jobs & Accommodation...1st Trip to Perth!

Also consider domestic work as well. Our hospital here in Cairns recently recruited several new domestics and I know that WHV staff sometimes get taken on. It's secure work and isn't going to over...

I've never had this problem and I've ordered heaps of stuff online from the UK. Could you not just get an Aussie credit card or am I being too naive?

Re: Citizenship test - does anyone fail?

Download and print off the pages of the book that are relevant to the test. It takes about an hour to read and is very, very basic.

If you revise there is no reason you won't get 100% unless (as...

Re: Australia ranked no 1 in lists that rate good things about Countries.

Nay bother except at dusk, and even then really not bad at all. The sandflies are far worse (I've even been bitten in bed), but at least they don't drive you to despair by landing on your face again...

Re: Australia ranked no 1 in lists that rate good things about Countries.

I would agree with you 100% on B and D, but not A and C alas. Well OK, the 'camping and trekking' bit is fantastic, but not the way the National Parks are often managed.

A lot of wildlife in this...

Re: Australia ranked no 1 in lists that rate good things about Countries.

Cairns is number one in Aus for not having them. One of the reasons I couldn't live in many parts of the south is the bush flies! They simply don't exist up here.

Re: What is it about Queensland?

I don't know the stats but would reasonably assume that it would mostly be Mirtazepine, Citalopram, its stereoisomer Escitalopram, Amitryptiline, Venlafaxine and Sertraline.

The thing to bear in...
