Check the location of the kids' school versus the compound. The run from Les Roses to DESS is about 15-20 minutes is traffic is OK, it's much better than it was. AF5 is quite a bit further out but...

How old are the kids? Schools start at an older age that you're used to in the UK and you'll need to find childcare which can be horrendously expensive in some areas, if you can even get a place.

You would be surprised how many ex GCC expats have moved to the costa del soo for retirement. Heck even Khashoggi’s palace there had been redeveloped into a home for them and a bunch of Russians.
