You could just delay the appointment then get your second opinion. If the private dentist says the same you can then get the treatment free. To have the fillings privately will cost you $300++...

As a dental nurse here in Australia;) I can assure you that Australia DOES still use Amalgam fillings. You can ask for composite (white) fillings but sometimes they are simply not the best to have, ...
