Re: stopped tax thread

I think tweed and many of the other posters are trying to put Alan straight.
After all he, who rightly believes that believes that evidence should be in writing, cannot show anything in writing that...

Re: QROPS Pensions

Many thanks. I thought there may be some reluctance to allow the same person to sign as scheme manager as the name of the fund. Also (yet to be tested probably) the willingness of a UK pension...

Re: QROPS Pensions

OK. I am trying to do the same. I am trustee like you but the declaration form says signing as sheme manager. So I assume that you signed as the scheme manager without further questions?

Thanks

Re: QROPS Pensions

Hi Alan
Did you sign the declaration as the smsf administrator? If so could it be that you got it because of your Australian financial qualifications? - or did that not arise?

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

In response to Alan
I have also checked with the ATO and they confirm what Jumbo said. I think Jumbo was only trying to clear up what has confused many people about tax implications of currency...

Re: transferring money to oz... exchange rate being very poor

My emails to the ATO have taken over a year to answer - by which time I've forgotten the specific questions. Is this common experience?

Re: transferring money to oz... exchange rate being very poor

We are in the same position. However I have a legitimate strategy for keeping GBP in the UK earning interest indefinitely which I will use unless the rate improves. (This would not suite everybody...

Re: Capital Gains dilemma - for Alan Collett or experts

The only advice Alan could give is to sell to use your full UK capital gain allowance this year and delay the remainder until next UK tax year (assuming no UK return). How much is this worth paying...

Re: My Sandown Experience (Pensions etc)

I also would be interested in his comments because my response from the ATO was quite straightforward that the 6 month rule still applies. I guess that the Australian super fund being transferred to...

Re: My Sandown Experience (Pensions etc)

There can be no doubt that a charge of 5% of a large pension fund to make a transfer is outrageous when for few hours homework you can do it yourself at no cost except possible loss on exchange rates.

Re: tax/pension/money - anyone use the services of Montfort Intl. ?

Avoid and take heed from previous posts. When last in Oz I came across financial advisers who used to work with them but ditched them as they found them "too fast"
