Monthly payments are available here (ON), I think it varies by municipality though, so it may just be where I live. I just pay it 2x a year to keep it simple, I try to minimize monthly direct debits...

This, IMO, is the biggest thing. At the end of the day, insurance companies, police, etc are going to nickle and dime you for everything, you can't trust them. Just get what you need to have in place...
