Default Immigrating to Canada with new items?

Hi Looking for some advice please.

We are moving in a few weeks and have purchased some new bikes for the family here in the UK and some beds which we will be shipping to Canada.

As they are new is it ok to bring them or are we only alowed to bring 'used' goods with us and in that case do I need to take the bikes out the boxes and build them before we ship them (obviouly they are flat packed so dont want to do that!).

Thanks in advace,

(c) "use"means that the settler has actually put the goods into an action or service for a purpose for which they were designed or intended.
This is in both the Settlers and Former Residents of Canada D Memorandums so in short No. Dependent on the officer you may have to pay duties and taxes as these are brand new and don't meet the use requirements.

One would think that it is sensible to assemble the bikes and put them into service to make sure they work. The removal company will advise on whether dis-assembly is necessary for shipping and provide packing as appropriate. Beds here in BC seem poor compared with those from the UK so bringing them with you is, in my opinion, wise. Ditto for any other "good" furniture, we are very glad we brought ours as it makes us feel more "at home". It also saves the hassle of shopping for new items in an area you may not be familiar with.

I would take everything out of its packaging and use it in your current UK home before moving over, even if for a short period of time. Then have the removal company disassemble and transport it to Canada.
