Re: Making Kiwi Mates - What's the Secret?

I have found from observing new British immigrants that, because they have no real NZ history, they cannot help talking about the UK and comparing the two - a big turn-off for Kiwis. Only the...

Re: What is Warkworth area like?

Lived there many years ago with my parents. Warkworth then used to be the service town for the many farms in the area, plus the many holiday homes along the coast. A river runs through the town...

Re: That's that then

Hi Karen,

Got a visitor this Christmas ... and he has already bought the THORNTONS...

Re: Another Fun One: You know youve been in NZ too long when....

Some more:-

1. ... you get excited when the All Blacks are winning.

2. ... you hesitate at a roundabout.

3. ... you eat beetroot on your burger.

4. ... you forget to stress when you...

Re: Accommodation

We were in a motel for a week. Saw the property on a Tuesday and moved in on Thursday. Fortunately, landlords like the rent to come in as quick as possible.

Re: Advice on visiting NZ/Auckland this Xmas needed

Talking about Taupo, in case you cannot get a campervan, there is a bach available there for five days over Christmas. Saw it on another forum - they've booked it but can't make it....

Re: Education and taking the plunge

My son was nearly 14 and my daughter nearly 12 when we moved here. They have both fit into the education system with no problems; in fact, they prefer school here. One thing I did have to do,...

Re: Big move

1. Rent a place rather than buy. Your money in a good cheque account will give you 5% minimum, in a term investment account 6-7%.
2. Look for another job, maybe away from Auckland.

Re: Advice on visiting NZ/Auckland this Xmas needed

As we had a Christmas reccy, we just gave the kids small and/or edible pressies on Christmas Day. We got back home on the 31st Dec and had a Christmas Day/New Year celebration the next day when the...

Re: Need some serious advise please

We did a reccy of both Australia and New Zealand and our conclusion was that Australia was definitely the best country for a better standard of living. We would have gone to Australia but could not...

Re: Advice on visiting NZ/Auckland this Xmas needed

I am afraid that is the first thing I thought of too. We did our first reccy in December and had to book well in advance. It took days of internet searching to find a holiday cottage for Christmas...

Re: Yet another one about the cost of living...

Just an example of how costs can differ per household:-

Our phone rental is around $40 pm, broadband another $40 pm, so we are lucky to spend less than $100 per month on telecom.

Our electric...

Re: A spot of daydreaming....

Difficult question to answer as we all have different likes, dislikes and situations.

I suppose the best places must be where the most expensive property is - these properties have the best views...

Hi Jane,

We haven't had immigrant cats but have had cats in New Zealand and quite frankly our cats were more interested in other insects - flies, crickets, grasshoppers, cicadas etc. There also...

Re: Blue Stickers on the way!

Congratulations!!!

We got our blue stickers a week ago and it was such a relief.

As for regrets ... well, you'll never know whether you have made the right move unless you try it.

Re: anything positive? and whats with the heating!

Hi Neil,

I give my opinions of your queries.

1. NZ houses do have heating, but not central heating. Almost all houses have a woodburning stove to warm up the living area which is usually...

Re: teleworking in New Zealand and bills

Hi Dora,

I might be wrong, but it sounds like they are wanting proof of your NZ residence - for example a bank or utility statement with your name and address on.

I really would have thought...

Hi Keng,

Can only answer a few of your queries:-

4. There are sausages and bacon here in NZ. Some say they taste awful, but I must have a very uneducated palate as I find them OK.

5. ...

Re: KeriKeri

Hi,

Kerikeri is a small town with a population within 10km of 11,000. It is growing, though, with many sections of land on the market and expected to go on the market. I have looked at the local...
