Re: Tipping Etiquette - Point #387

I was at business dinner a few weeks ago. 8 of us with a $3,000 bill (the customer liked the good wine). So the server gets $600 for two hours work.

After we paid the bill, the customer decides...

Re: A traditional good indian restaurant in Calgary???

We ate at Maurya in Kensington the most.

Rajdoot I never liked -- slooooooow service, poor food. Same with that fancyish one on 14th Ave. Taj Mahal gets "A" for effort with the decor. Food is...

Re: Gotta love this job description...

This is illegal unless they can it can be justified. By justification, they have to demonstrate that the law prevents them from hiring anyone but a US citizen.

The law does permit employers to...

Re: Mail-in rebates?

They are a scam in principle. The idea, obviously, is that not everyone will mail in the rebate.

Fine you say, the ones that do get the rebate. Except they use that rebate to post an advertised...

Re: Trailer park Boys !!

Trailer Park boys is hysterical. Truly brilliant. After living in Canada you'll see the types of characters it is based on...it's brilliant.

Re: Red Bull in Canada?

Strange but true: the law actually restricted caffeine in soft drinks based on colour. Only brown soft drinks could have caffeine added.

Re: Voip

I use Vonage. Accept it for what it is, a "best effort" service, and you'll be impressed 99% of the time -- assuming your internet connection is decent.

If you want the reliability and consistency...

Re: British student looking for advice!

Your last question is easy to answer: I didn't find it hard to adapt to life at all! The other students were open and friendly compared to what I remember in England, and I made an effort to get...

Re: Voip

I can't think of any domestic router that does QoS. In any event it wouldn't be worthwhile, because you're routing the packets over the internet where QoS headers wouldn't mean anything anyway. On...

I chose to do what you did, albeit I chose the University of Calgary. I think it might have been the best decision I ever made. I had a fantastic time at university and I now have a much better...

Re: where to live in Calgary?

The NW and the SW are the nicest areas in Calgary. The SW has the most expensive neighbourhoods in town, but the NW is more scenic. If I was moving back tomorrow I'd move somewhere in the NW.

Re: Job Hunting in the US - Differences to Blighty

Never ever ever ever put citizenship / visa status on a resume. Never. Never. Never. It puts your potential employer in a difficult position in several ways.

For one thing, by hiring you an...

Re: US traffic lights are inefficient - surprise

Hampton Roads is special. Motorists there fly in the face of game theory and co-operate. They recognize that if we all speed, then our chances of being the poor bugger are slim. I think it is also a...
