Cars in Canada ?
Folks,
For those there in Canada, what's the take on Chryslers over there ?
I used to run a 2.0 Neon in the UK (the second model when it was completely overhauled) and TBH it was a fine reliable car, generally well built, comfy, nothing fell off, leaked, bust or melted down, and the electrics worked fine.
Have seen the new Chrysler 300 and the Pacifica, and I'd imagine they are both considered proper distasteful blingmobiles over there, though the Pacifica looks practical. We're looking for something more discreet and the Sebring looks like a good choice, well kitted out, spacey, second hand prices are very reasonable and we're looking to buy a decent car that'll last a good few years without spending a fortune on it.
Any views ? What's considered gross and blingish over there ? We're looking for something subtle and reliable.
Cheers for any input,
Rich.

Chrysler is sort of seen as the poor cousin, third domestic maker. In the past they were not very glam and reliability was so so (no worse than GM/ Ford though). Current strategy seems to be to bring in some of the mercedes technology and wrap it up in a funky stylish body, so they are more adventurous than GM or Ford in that respect in my opinion, the PT cruiser started it, and the Crossfire, new 300 and Dodge Magnum seem to be carrying it on. It wont appeal to everyone, but they needed to do something to get a hold of some of the market. Engineering wise they are OK, check out consumer reports and the usual websites for reliability. It remains to be seen how well the designs will age. They seem to be trying to drive themselves to the more expensive end of the market, as people will pay more for the moire fashionable styling and perhaps the Mercedes technology. You could probalby get a similar size/type vehicle without the styling from the other domestics for less money. The Pacifica is surely a windup...its a minivan... just a really expensive one. If you are really interested in one do yourself a favour and get a Honda Oddesy
Having said all that no one is going to point and laugh at you if you drive a Chrysler. the 300 was voted car of the year here.
Not sure anything counts as a bling bling motor. The big Caddy SUV is probably as close as we get, but plenty of (rich) soccer mums drive them too.

As Iaink rightly puts it, if you insist on getting a 4x4/suv, they go for the odessey, or Nissan quest ( love that ), lower gravity, and for a bit more, you can get a dvd player in it, bringing the price to the lower 30s range.
A bling car as you put it, might be the ESCALADE ( won't take it for free ) You might also want to settle for a KIA SEDONA, if money is an issue

SUV's are a hazard to the environment and safety on the road, but hey if you want to drive one go ahead. Just don't get all pissy when gas prices start spiralling.

Can't wait to ditch our Chrysler (Grand Cherokee Ltd) - going for an EX-lux Kia Sorento!!! http://www.kia.ca/gallery.asp?lang=en&plate=sorento If you'd told me that a few years ago I'd have laughed...but am fed up of shelling out for dodgy electrics on the Jeep. The Kia comes with fantastic reviews and a 5yr warranty. Don't care about depreciation (although the prices in the Used Car Guide seem pretty high) - we'll drive it til it drops
I like the 300 though Rich, we rented one in DC and it was pretty sweet inside and so much room (note great grasp of technical car lingo).
Happy car shopping!

Biiiink, that is a wonderful choice, and its a big improvement on the 2004 model. Like you said, the warranty is great, and insurance is low too for this car.
A note to those looking to buy new cars here, if you graduated from a 3-4 yrs course over the past 4-5 yrs, dealers like hyundai, GM, Toyota and so on, do a graduate rebate, where they give you a $1000 off, or pay the first 2 payments on the car.
Biiiink.....sounds like you like those 4x4/suv's ? How about this one:

Hmmm... Nicky is very impressed with this, she says it is the nicest 4x4 she's seen for ages....BUT the 3.4 litre engine is a challenge to our growing environmentalist consciousness. Urk !! But t'is a really tasty beast !!!
Notice how the basic model is FWD and the AWD is, as usual, extra on the base models or premium priced on the two AWD models ?
Hmmm....the Hyundai Santa Fe looks the better based on engine size and fuel consumption.
Rich.

You have got to see the Equinox in person, or test drive it to really appreciate, I took it for a spin earlier this month, when I was shopping for a new car.
The sante is a cheap alternative, but the depreciation value is huge, compared to the equinox. A good idea might also be to get a GM visa card from TD, that way you build up a lot of points that you can redeem from the MRSP of the car.
The chrysler 300 has been mentioned a lot, isn't that for when you reach a certain age, kind of like the KIA MAGENTIS ?
