You're lucky with your parents' broker then. My UK broker says that the underwriters' first question is whether you are a UK resident and that a condition of insurance is that you hold a UK or EU...

Thanks for you reply. It's a German company, with Canadian and US subsidiaries. I'll be paid by the US subsid. so it looks like I can't actually live in Detroit "on Canadian business" as it were. ...

On the plus side...
You've done your 2 years in 5 for the residency requirement, so could go home, get work, re-group and re-finance and you have another 3 years to find job back in...

Personally I spent the first few years on a board and found that there was a lot of arse time. After switching to skiing I found that for me, there was a lot less. I count myself as a (bad) skier...
