Hi Mike

Would you mind reposting the link to that information please?

Re: Never thought I would be posting on here.

Re: Lincolnshire

I went to Lincolnshire "on business" a few times - I think I was visiting Interflora who have offices there. Very rural and the bits I saw were actually very picturesque. Not a lot there though and...

Re: Should I stop using this forum?

Heh heh.

My son's football team played against East Fremantle last week at their ground. They play in the colours of the Italian flag (a red, white & green strip), the corner flags on the pitch are...

Re: Do British chimneys have "flue shutters"?

Don't know if they do now.

The house I grew up in had a coal fire and that definitely had a flue-shutter (although I don't remember it being called that). There was a sort of metal loop that hung...

Re: Should I stop using this forum?

Hi

Its an interesting question. In my previous incarnations I have been skulking around British Expats for a long time - starting out by looking for info on moving to Australia about 10 years ago...

Re: Moving to Australia

Sounds promising for you. Certainly a couple of years ago in WA when the boom was in full swing professions like yours were very much in demand - to a crazy level! I'm sure you wouldn't struggle to...

Re: Moving to Australia

Hi Jonathon,

Yes - look into getting a visa first because if you can't get that then it all becomes a bit of a moot point.

Polly is right that "seek" is the main jobs website and you can check...

Re: Flashbacks?

Last night was pretty cold here in Perth and a lot of people must have been using their wood-burning stoves because there was a real smell of woodsmoke in the air. The combination of the cold, dark...

Re: Thinking of heading back

Hi toodlepip,

Re-reading what I said to you - I sound like a bit of a know-it-all. Sorry if it came across that way!

Anyway -I will now open both loungeroom doors so I can get my big-head...

Re: Thinking of heading back

Hi toodlepip,

Just two thoughts...

1) I think - other things being equal - your kids should do all of their secondary schooling in either one country or the other. IMHO its too disruptive to...

Re: I have made a descion and it feels great!

Ha ha - not at all ! If anything it has made me feel a bit better now that I am not going there ;)

Re: I have made a descion and it feels great!

When it looked (tantalisingly) like I might be able to move back we were looking at the North Leeds suburbs along the ring road. Horsforth would have been my pick...

Re: Scared ... 2 weeks and we be in Perth

Hi B&S - its perfectly normal to have "a bit of a wobble" now that all the planning and dreaming is becoming a reality. Its a nervy / exciting time and I guess if all you were feeling was apathetic...

Re: I have made a descion and it feels great!

I had a friend who had "mild" tattooed over one nipple and "bitter" over the other.

Often been tempted to follow suit....;)

Re: I have made a descion and it feels great!

I have just checked my "OZ Lotto" ticket and, sadly, there will be no move to Ilkley for me for at least another week:(

I worked in Leeds City Centre for 9 years and I used to love having a walk...

Re: Going home!!!

I am from Wakefield but live in Perth. When I go back to Yorkshire on holiday I love the way my accent blends in with everyone elses. Feel like I am back with my own tribe again - ha ha

Re: The final painful chapter

Hi Kerina

I sympathize as a marriage break-up whilst living abroad is a lonely experience BUT, as you rightly say, it has brought some clarity to your situation. At least you can now start shaping...

Re: Do peopole who have moved back live their lives differently?

It's a good question but not one I am likely to be able to put to the test anytime soon...

Like a lot of migrants I have had a huge wake-up call as to what was right on my own doorstep in...

Phew this thread is a heady emotional brew alright.

I don't have anything to add here that hasn't been said more wisely and eloquently by the other posters. I think I will point my sister towards...

Re: I don't see how we'll ever move back....

Hi

Is your OH's sole motivation to stay having that job with that particular company? If so it must be some job! I know I am stating the obvious but people move from country to country without a...

Re: "Inbetweenies" Thread:For those who are definitely returning, but not for a while

That does sound a cut above the typical 800 beef snags, fatty chops, carbonized onions and salad-on-paper-plates I am more used to...;)

An don't forget a trailer-load of cartons of "piss" and a...

Re: "Inbetweenies" Thread:For those who are definitely returning, but not for a while

Disagree completely about Christmas in Australia Jon. To me Xmas in Aus is just another backyard BBQ on a hot day - same as most other weekends. If it wasn't for my son I don't think I'd bother with...
