Never thought I would be posting on here.

It is almost surreal to be posting on the MBTTUK forum after all we went through to get here. Six years on and our lives have gone through 180 degrees.
We were the most optimistic rose tinted posters on this site and were completely blinkered and 100% set on Australia. People of old like PB, Dotty and the like were shot down in flames and called trolls and trouble makers lol
Well this is my re-introduction to the site, lots of questions to come over the next few months im sure.
See you back on the other side.

I also remember the days of PB and Dotty. Wonder how they're getting on these days.

I know the feeling, was in a similar position to you. But only you know what is right for you. As others have said, you won't know unless you try it.
Good luck with whatever your next plans are.

Well good luck with the next forward step in your life!
You never can tell what life is going to throw at you and you are one of the lucky ones that you can call it quits at the a*se end of the world (quote from P Keating!) and head off to places where there is "life".
I dont know your story either and dont remember the people you have mentioned but I am sure that I too would be counted one of the doomsayer/troll/troublemakers - I prefer to think of myself as a pragmatistLOL
Anyway, hope it all goes brilliantly for you!

Hi Welsh Heart,
Wow - that's a blast from the past! I remember PB and Dotty back from the days when I was researching the move to Australia. Like you, I regarded them as cynical, nay-saying trouble-causers with a "bad attitude" and not having the right stuff to succeed downunder - unlike my good self of course
I am a wee bit deflated that you find yourself on this site as it probably means that your move has gone a bit sour. At least you will find yourself in good company (and I mean GOOD company).
Don't worry about your opening post here - as the saying goes "it only feels kinky the first time"

Hi Welsh Heart
I don't think any expats think they'll ever be posting on the MBTTUK forum.....I certainly didn't when I first went back to Canada, but after a few miserable years I found myself looking at it more and more often, until it suddenly became my drug of choice!
We had researched and analysed everything from every flipping angle what a return to Canada would mean to a couple of old wrinklies like the OH and me ( we were in our mid-50's at the time), and whilst we recognised the downside, we also thought it would be the best move for us. That was back in 2004. I hated it from the minute we walked into the house we'd bought until the moment I stepped on a plane in Toronto, clutching a one way ticket to Manchester!
OH and I have reached the conclusion that no amount of research can tell you how things will actually be: a severe winter to one person is a season of snow-filled fun to another; years of struggling to find work can be hell for one person but a time of relaxation to someone else. Research cannot tell you how friendly or unfriendly the inhabitants of the small town in which you buy your house will be.......we came across possibly the most unfriendly, and sometimes openly hostile, people in Ontario. So we decided to fling Research out the window and just come Home because it Felt Right......and by crikey, it's the best thing we ever did.
So, Welsh Heart....go with your heart and forget everything else!
