Re: Potential Job in Ruwais Area

More than just acceptable, that sounds like a good salary. As a single guy with accommodation paid for you'll be in a position to save a great deal of money.

Yes, very much so. There's a reason...

Re: Sending money to the UK

HSBC rates are terrible. I understand they are also negotiable, especially for large sums, but it's probably better to go to somebody who offers you a sensible rate in the first place rather than...

Re: Etihad offer - Manager M2

That's a very bad offer from a financial perspective - there's no way anyone should move from the UK to Abu Dhabi for a lower package.

Also, you'd be working for Etihad.

Re: Another U-turn on Class 2 NICs

Was your wife working in the UK immediately before leaving and in the UAE afterwards? The guidance I read suggested that this was necessary in order to qualify for the Class 2. Or is there some way...

Re: New speed limits

Reminds me of this article about the new road to the Western Region earlier this year:

Re: What if?

What an interesting question!

Let's look at some real numbers: In the UK in 2017, Income tax plus NI raised £363m, while VAT raised £162m (see...

Re: Overused / irritating words,phrases

I work with people who routinely sign off emails with "This is for your kind information and necessary action".

Re: Dubai / Middle East Sayings

As excruciating as when they pronounce Derby perfectly, but as the second word in Abu Dhabi.

- Scumbag salesman had the opportunity to take a good look at his life and think about getting a proper job

Re: Salutations, closings and sign-offs in correspondence

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned the classic Abu Dhabi opening:

"Greetings!!!"

What's all that about?

Re: Weekend in AlAin

The Rotana's certainly good, but the Danat hotel is worth considering also. Nice pool for the kids, a decent bar and a couple of excellent, good value restaurants (Italian and Indian).

Re: advice please

So your basic costs might be something like:
18,000 for a nice 3 bed apartment with gym, poll etc.
5,000 for a solid rental car plus fuel
5,000 for school fees

Re: Golf Gardens Abu Dhabi

There are a few 6 beds in Golf Gardens overlooking the golf course, but as with all compounds, even these only have small gardens.

Re: Golf Gardens Abu Dhabi

Good point about Glenelg. You've got to be on the road before 7.00 or after around 8.30 to avoid that chaos or it'll add at least 10 mins onto the journey. Otherwise 20 or maybe 25 mins to Al Reem is...
