Re: Buying a house in Perth? Knock 30% Off!

I bought in Perth 10 years ago (almost 3:1 exchange rate too!) since then prices have done nothing despite being in the middle of the 'mother of all booms'. Any sniff of a slowdown will bring this...

Re: Buying a house in Perth? Knock 30% Off!

Perth is a giant Ponzi scheme. Outside building houses for new migrants and mining, there’s not much else to keep the Ponzi going. A lot of people are going to get hammered, I’m afraid. Could be as...

Re: Bankruptcy advice

So what happens when people pay a larger and larger proportion of their income on housing and rent relative to actual income on ever increasing prices of housing? Answer: They have less money to...

Re: Any families in Australia living on combined gross income of less than $100,000 a

Kudos to the above post bingobob777 - the most truthful and insightful post that I've read on here for a while. Absolutely spot on mate.

Re: Secret Harbour - Family of 5 avg outgoings

I'd guess $350 a week for food, leaves $350 for bills, fuel, insurances, medical expenses, school, clothing etc. $700 p/w would be VERY tight IMO.

Re: Secret Harbour - Family of 5 avg outgoings

You'll need an income of $100K + to get by as long as you don't over extend yourself with loans and what not. Don't expect to have many family holidays, meals out or entertainment with that income,...

Re: Home Buying...

Right, so you both work full time with little outgoings? How about save up for a deposit? Renting is far cheaper than buying in Oz, if you can't save for a decent deposit now then quite frankly,...

Re: Brits no longer dreaming of a life in Australia

Say the US imposes trade sanctions against China to protect it's economy or worse, a war? Who do you think Australia will cosy up to - Europe/US or China, where does Australia's loyalites and history...

Quelle Surprise!

You have to laugh, only 6...

Re: What Is 'Cheap' In Australia Compared To The UK?

I'll guess that Bermudashorts house she rents is worth about $1.5 mill + if they were to buy it - so she is getting a bargain by renting and not buying.

Re: Sick of Getting Ripped off In Perth

Join the club. We've been here 10 years now, prices for everything have gone crazy about 3 years ago. I could tolerate it if it had the buzz of a proper metropolitan city, but no, it's crap.

Re: Excellent Restaurants and Eateries North of Perth

We don't eat out in Perth anymore, quality, price and service is shocking, it's a piss take. Restuarant food is from the 80's unless you go somewhere like Clarkes or Nobu and are prepared to take out...

Re: 7,000 Brits leaving Oz for the UK ...

I don't think interest rates will go up in UK for at least a decade, it will be like Japan, a lost couple of decades, ultra low interest rates, deflation, no economic growth and a slow melt on house...

Re: Mining Industry overated: report

The Australian is News Limited owned, Brisbane Times is Fairfax owned.

News Limited is owned by the Murdochs! Kudos indeed.

Re: House affordability NSW

Plenty of people on here will tell you that it's not all about the size of your house in Aus but the 'lifestyle', but from my experience, that's exactly what Poms want. This swap is currently...

Mining Industry overated: report

Well, well, well, exactly my views.

The big media companies are owned by the mining magnates, so one would expect the propaganda. ;)

Read a report the other day saying that only $3 billion of...

Re: Violent crime escalating in Perth

Definately more crime in Perth over the last few years but perhaps no more than any other City. Trouble is, not much happens here so every incident is reported, therefore it seems like more perhaps.

Re: Retiring to oz

The current trend, here in Perth, is that expats who are retired or retiring are all heading back to Blighty or Europe. Money goes alot further there regarding health care, medication, cost of living...

Six figures, at least. Your kids are young, so cheaper right now. WA police just got a wage rise to around $68K for rookies and are the best paid in Australia. Renting is cheaper than buying by...

A recession is 2 quarters of negative growth, you know, what WA is experiencing right now.
