Just about had it with this place. Everywhere you go, you have to pay through the nose for everything. Went out for a pub lunch with the family, and paid a small fortune for average food and crap service, which sums up Perth for me. No wonder the restaurants are dead as people are voting with their feet and cooking from home.
Going for breakfast is another joke - we almost paid double here for the same thing we got in Malbourne the week before.
Don't get me started on the price of alcohol. Glad I don't drink much

More about home life these days. Family bonding I guess they call it. Not missing a lot by not going out to eat or to pubs here anyway,as you have duely noted.

In all seriousness this is a problem for anyone that wants to travel away from Melbourne. Feeling ripped off in Restaurants... Only place as cheap is Sydney.
I'd be interested to see if Perth is more expensive than Port Macquarie...I doubt it. Port Macquarie has the worst value meals Ive encountered in Australia thus far. I wouldnt be surprised if there places that are even bigger rip offs.
Lets put it this way.... The very passable Curry house up the road from me charges 8.50 for a main course. I've not found many places that do Indian better. 7 bucks for a Kebab which is great, we probably have more Kebab houses than any other suburb in Australia. 16 at last count plus a few vans.... Can buy full breakfast for 7.50... etc etc Only place I know off where the local Mcdonalds and Hungry Jacks franchises went broke because of the better choices around.

Yehp there was a Mcdonalds opposite the Market here in Coburg... and a drive through Hungry Jacks down towards Reynard st on Sydney Rd. Both shut down because hardly anyone bothered with them.
Closest Hungry Jacks is the other side of Preston and there is a Mcdonalds in Pascoe Vale. I guess Sydney Rd Rents would have been expensive as well for amount of Patronage.

We hardly eat out at all. The prices are pretty high and the food is often poor quality and "new cuisine" - ie., not much of it!

Best "value" i've found in perth... steel tree at rocko foreshore or baldivis... Lunch menu and drink of choice for $14.95....... But bloody expensive eating out, especially when there are 6/7 of you at any given time.....
