Re: Best bank account in Quebec similar to Starling

Bear in mind that whatever other accounts they might have, just about everyone in Quebec has an account with Desjardins.

Re: Ottawa

Only a bit of Hull s the Ile.

People in Gatineau still tend to use the names of the original sectors.

And Gatineau doesn't have a centre.

Re: Ottawa/Toronto for a young couple?

Er, Ottawa is in 27th place and TO is 3rd. Both suck, of course.

Re: Pierre Poilievre

So who's next up?

Jug ears, a magician's assistant or a head of lettuce?

Re: Canadian Thanksgiving

My day wasn't very royal. I spent it working on a room conversion (split) and hacking a large IKEA chest of drawers into two smaller ones.

We had homemade Coquilles St-Jacques for dinner. King...

Re: Canadian Thanksgiving

We do SFA on Thanksgiving. Also, seeing as none of my business associates or clients are in Canada, I'll probably work.

I heard a Christmas song on the radio yesterday. That' early even for here.

Re: Pierre Poilievre

Interesting election last night.

The CAQ got about 75% of the seats with about 40% of the vote. The electoral map is a sea of pale blue, with an island of dark blue where you'd expect it and...

Re: Pierre Poilievre

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the QC election tomorrow. There are currently no Conservative provincial MPs. There might be on Tuesday morning.

I've noticed that the ruling CAQ, which...

Re: How different is Toronto to Ottawa

Easily doable. We often used to do Gatineau-Longueuil for lunch. That's 200km each way.

When we were in the process of moving, we made a number of return day trips between Gatineau and where we...

Re: when your accent becomes a figure of speech

My grandson is on the brink of talking. It is my intention that he will be fully conversant with the use of the word "bollocks". He will thus be part of a small, select, group of franco-Quebeckers...

Re: How different is Toronto to Ottawa

The renos are pretty much done, apart from the basement windows, which have been bought and await installation. That and splitting a room in two, which I'll do this weekend.

My humble needs now...

Re: How different is Toronto to Ottawa

Nah. I wouldn't be surprised to find that I'm one of the supposedly few people that hasn't had it. We moved to a village just before Covid arrived and didn't really have time to get to know anyone...

Re: How different is Toronto to Ottawa

"Nearby" is a relative term. It's over 200km between Ottawa and Montreal and it can be a nightmare trip on a Friday afternoon.

Re: How different is Toronto to Ottawa

Missed that.

Yeah, I'm alright. Been a bit busy. The UK company I worked for got bought by a competitor last year. They only wanted part of the business so I and quite a few others were made...

Re: How different is Toronto to Ottawa

I'd agree with most of that, having lived in the GTA (2000-2004) and Ottawa/Gatineau (2004-2019). Ottawa is probably colder and hotter, though, and it snows more.

I'd add that Gatineau Park also...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

It's the Super Bowl today. Or, as I like to call it, the "Superbole". A bit like hyperbole but not as awesome.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I haven't finished. At the moment I believe there are only two franco quebeckers fully versed in the use of the word "bolloc......".

I'll get cracking on him when he starts to speak.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I corrupted my 13-month old grandson yesterday. His parents weren't looking so I gave him Marmite on toast. He loved it.

Re: Coronavirus

My sister in law is, or was, a hospital nurse in Montreal. She was on a Covid ward and naturally got it. Full-on and she still has no sense of taste, two year on.

Recently, she and her bloke went...

Re: Coronavirus

A couple of weeks ago the QC government introduced a requirement for vax passports to be shown at the govt-run booze and pot stores. The number of people booking first appointments shot up instantly.

Re: Coronavirus

I suspect this tax is a knee-jerk reaction by the QC government to force people to get vaccinated. Asking nicely isn't working. Bringing back the curfew on New Year's Eve was another such reaction.
