Re: Uk private pension and tax implications

I was told by a financial advisor that the way to calculate accumulated earnings was amount of value now (£) - amount of value (£) at time of migration * exchange rate now. I would dearly love this...

Re: Let's have a grumble.......

Some random took my parcel from the post office counter (the dozy staff weren't paying attention). After being caught on the CCTV, owned up to 'mistake' and instead of returning my parcel to the post...

Re: QUITTING TEACHING - Where do I start?

I would suggest BA too, but not so cynically - BA's gather business requirements, and typically act as business/technical interface, take on some of the PM and change management - and also get...

Re: Moving to Brisbane for 1 year

You may want to look at home swaps as well - you won't have the choice of area but furnished rentals are tough to find. Note that Holland Park/Greenslopes have direct buses to UQ via the excellent...

Re: You know you are in Australia when...

Re: Work reduced and told to take unpaid leave

When I was working full time in Brisbane you were expected to take leave over the Xmas break. In practice this meant you used 50% of your annual leave allowance on a holiday many didn't want to take....

Re: Melbourne Interviews, its a funny old game

I think nepotism is everywhere but whilst I have sometimes lost out to a more suitably qualified candidate in the UK, suitability to deliver role can take a lower priority here. I once joined an...

Re: Tasmania

When we went to Tassie there were budgies flying around the botty gardens in Hobart - How good is that? Also there was an Antarctic exhibit with 'real' temperatures and it was a hot day so very...

Re: Melbourne Interviews, its a funny old game

I found casual racism against Poms quite funny initially. Now it's just tiresome. I've had similar anti-pommy sentiments at work but don't think I've been turned down for jobs because I'm British -...

Re: Life expectancy!

The demographics are truly shocking - but at least can be anticipated/predicted. In a country where people are considered over the hill by 50, expected to live till 80+ how are the ole farts...

Re: Australian Employment Outlook 2014
