Yes - certainly you can buy watches cheaper in Hong Kong than in the UK - there is no VAT for starters.

An Omega Speedmaster could be purchased for approx. HK $12,000 - $14,000 (GBP 775 to 900)...

To be honest - it's never easy!

The only thing I would say is give it a try, go back for a while and see how 'You' feel about the UK.

I personally use 'the optical shop' which isn't too bad - you'll find em all over the place!

They need about 4-5 days to make the lenses - so make sure youn have time.

As for shopping - avoid...

Good quality, reasonable prices - too much choice!

However, the weather can be described as 'cool' at the end of January and early February - so either bring a light...

Yes I am aware that the medicals are only valid for 12 months, so we might end up doing them again along with the Police checks.

Bearing in mind you will only pay maximum 16% Income Tax (after HK $100,000 Single Person's Tax Free Allowance).

Pluss the fact that there is no VAT, Community Charge or similar 'Stealth'...

Actually we had done the Police checks & Medicals (all except the X-Ray for the Wife), when we found out about the pregnancy.

Difficult one!

Firstly Hong Kong Laws do not recognise 'Common Law Parners', so living togther means nothing when it comes to Immigration and 'Dependancy Visas'.

2nd May is indeed a Public holiday, but as already mentioned, this is not a problem in Hong Kong......everything is open!

Jackthelad is quite correct, don't worry about typhoons in Hong Kong.

The weather will be warm & humid in May, but nothing to worry about.

Your biggest issue will be the polution...
